Meeting Again
"Hello? Uncle Wang, I heard you were looking for me?"
"You finally called back!" came a middle-aged man's voice from the other end. "Where are you now?"
"It's right here in the community. What happened?"
"Okay, go wait for me at the house. I'll be there in half an hour, and we'll talk when we meet!"
After hanging up the phone, Luo Jun was a little confused. He had already checked everything when he checked out, so what could be wrong? But since he had taken the day off anyway, he might as well clean up this mess.
With that thought in mind, Luo Jun walked towards the old residential area across the street.
Upon arriving at the corresponding floor, Luo Jun found that the door he remembered was gone, replaced by a brand-new security door. Looking around, he confirmed from the couplets on the doors of his neighbors that this new door belonged to the apartment he had lived in for three years.
Even if you don't trust me, changing the locks is one thing, but is it really necessary to replace the entire front door? What happened?
As Luo Jun was pondering this, his ears twitched, and a somewhat familiar voice, accompanied by footsteps, came from downstairs.
"Oh dear, I was completely startled by his sudden move... Later, I looked across the street for a while, but neither the police cars nor the ambulances arrived. It must have been a trick played by those people in the community!"
Isn't that the bald guy who was causing trouble in the neighborhood just now?
At the same time, a chilling Death Aura, mixed with the smell of decay, filled the cramped rented room, even dimming the light within...
Then the sound of keys being fumbled came from downstairs.
"This damn door, it's so hard to even insert a key!" The Bald Man struggled for a while before finally managing to open the door. Just as he stepped inside, before he could even close the door, he felt someone pat him on the shoulder.
As he spoke, he raised his free hand, grabbed his face, and ripped it off with force, revealing a face that was half rotten and half skeletal!
As he spoke, he raised his hand to slap him, but Luo Jun grabbed his wrist.
"Stop playing tricks on me, believe me or not I'll fucking kill you!"
Luo Jun looked down through the crack in the stairs and saw the man carrying a bag of fruit, talking on the phone as he went upstairs.
"Have you forgotten?" Luo Jun stared at the Bald Man with empty eyes. "You've already killed me..."
"Who is it?" The Bald Man, annoyed, turned around and saw that it was the same kid he had pushed down in the community earlier.
"It's you, kid?!" The Bald Man was both shocked and furious. "You really did lie to me! And you even came to my house? What do you want? Let me tell you, I have a mental illness, and killing someone isn't illegal!"
"Ahhh..." The Bald Man's blood pressure soared at the horrifying scene. His face turned ashen, and after convulsing a few times, he fell backward, foaming at the mouth.
So this guy's rented apartment is right downstairs... Are we going to cause trouble tomorrow? Luo Jun's eyes lit up, and a plan came to him.
"I died so tragically..." Luo Jun's face was blank, his eyes were empty, and his tone was like that of a vengeful ghost in a movie, which made the Bald Man feel inexplicably scared, but he still mustered up his courage.
"Oh, honey, don't worry. I'll go to the community center again tomorrow and make a scene. I refuse to believe I can't get it done. Once you get the welfare money, it's not so easy to take it away, and I won't have to live in this awful place anymore... Okay, I'm at my doorstep. I'll hang up now..."
At this moment, behind Luo Jun, who had already become a "Vengeful Ghost," another Luo Jun appeared. The Vengeful Ghost returned the mask in its hand to its original form, and then turned into a cloud of dust and disappeared.
Luo Jun fiddled with the Imposter Mask in his hand, thinking to himself that this thing was really convenient, but this guy was really useless; he was just scared and that was it?
After checking his pulse to confirm he was still alive, Luo Jun left the room and closed the door.
It's no wonder the Bald Man was cowardly. The Undead Soldier wearing the Imposter Mask was a weak grunt in Luo Jun's eyes, but he was still an undead creature, emanating Death Spiritual Qi. The concentration of this Spiritual Qi didn't affect Cultivators much, but its effect on ordinary people was quite noticeable, especially when combined with the shocking transformation scene of tearing off the mask on the spot...
This bald guy always claims to have a mental illness. Regardless of whether it was true or not before, after all this commotion, it's probably confirmed. He probably won't dare to cause trouble again...
Back upstairs, the landlord arrived shortly after.
"Oh, Little Luo, where have you been all this time? I can't get through to you on the phone, and you don't reply to my messages..." The landlord, a man in his fifties, complained as he took out his keys to open the door.
"Just some personal business to take care of," Luo Jun replied casually. "What does Uncle Wang need me for?"
"See for yourself!" The landlord opened the door and gestured for them to enter.
"This is..." The sight in the room made Luo Jun's eyes widen.
Although the room still had the structure he remembered, the furnishings inside were no longer recognizable as they were.
Not only were the furniture gone, but the floorboards were also completely torn up, the paint on the walls was scraped off, and holes were even drilled in some places. The ceiling was the worst affected area, with the entire suspended ceiling being removed. Even the toilet and sink in the bathroom were Violence damaged. The whole house looked like it had been visited by a demolition crew.
"What's going on?" Luo Jun was a little confused; everything was fine when he checked out.
"I was about to ask you that!" The landlord put his hands on his hips. "Last month, two foreigners suddenly showed up, saying they were your friends and wanted to rent my place based on your recommendation. I thought to myself, 'Wow, Little Luo, you know foreign friends and you're even trying to get business for me.' I even gave them a discounted price."
"But unexpectedly, not long after, a neighbor called me, saying there was a lot of clanging and banging coming from my room, and he didn't know what was going on that was disturbing his rest. When I heard that, I rushed over immediately, and the house was like this, and the two foreigners were nowhere to be found!"
As he spoke, the landlord pointed at Luo Jun: "I can't find that foreigner now. You hired them, so you have to compensate me for my losses!"
"What does this have to do with me?" Luo Jun looked completely bewildered. "Uncle Wang, don't you know me? I was born and raised in Ningdong. I've never even left the province before, let alone gone abroad. How could I possibly have foreign friends?"
"Besides, we'll settle our accounts when we move out. Who you rent it to afterwards, and how the house turns out, is none of my business!"
"Impossible!" Uncle Wang grabbed Luo Jun. "Those two foreigners came in and immediately asked if you lived here. They said they only rented this place because you used to live here. If you say it has nothing to do with you, who would believe that?"
"Let me tell you, I've already called the police. This house hasn't been cleaned, and they even changed the door, all to preserve evidence and prevent people from tampering with the crime scene. If you don't pay me compensation, I'll sue you in court and have the police arrest you!"
Luo Jun shook off the landlord's hand. "I said it's okay, and that means it. Sue me wherever you want!"
The landlord, not expecting Luo Jun to be so unmoved, softened his tone. "Little Luo, I was just saying that in anger. We've known each other for so many years, how could I possibly sue you...? At least tell me who those two foreigners are, so I can find them easily. I called the police, and they investigated; they all left fake names, so there's nowhere to arrest them..."
Luo Jun's eyes darted around, then he asked, "When did you say the neighbors heard the noise?"
Hearing Luo Jun's tone soften, the landlord thought there was a chance and immediately pulled out his phone, "Let me find the records for you... Here it is. The house was rented to them on the 127th. On the 29th of last month, the neighbor sent me a message saying there was a lot of noise last night, so that was the 28th, right? Take a look..."
"Number 28..." Luo Jun nodded, then spread his hands towards the landlord. "I'm sorry, Uncle Wang, I'll say it again, I really don't know him. Uncle Wang, you'll have to figure it out yourself, this is none of my business."
After saying that, he glanced at the landlord, secretly giving him Spirit Shock... and then turned and left.
"Huh?" The landlord was stunned, and it took him a while to react. "It's none of your business asking so many questions..."
After leaving the residential area, Luo Jun turned back and glanced at the house he had rented in the distance.
Foreigners... could it be...?
