Background / History

The Great Luo Sect is an over-eight-hundred-year-old Daoist holy land and the acknowledged ancestral home of Daoism. As the leading sect among the Three Daoist Sects, its will was commonly treated as that of the wider Daoist community. The founding emperor of the Great Blue Dynasty bestowed the “Ancestral Home of Taoism” inscription at its mountain gate, reflecting Daoism’s rise after the dynasty’s establishment. 257 260 261

Daoism supported the founding of the Great Blue Dynasty; the original Imperial Guard Army was created with Daoist assistance. In the following era, Daoist sect masters rotated through the position leading the Rectification Law Pavilion, while Daoist disciples held extensive influence within local Bureaus of Impartial Justice. 285

Under Sect Master True Lord Qingxu, the sect maintained its prestige through its elite cultivators, formations, lightning methods, alchemy, and annual delivery of the life-extending Pine Cloud Crane Year Pill to the Imperial Palace. Qingding Real Person, the sect’s foremost alchemist, was solely capable of refining the longevity elixir. 257 260 301

The sect entered crisis when Qingding was exposed for embezzling materials and creating fake Longevity Pills. Qingxu initially accepted responsibility and declared a ten-year Mountain Sealing, but Supreme Elder Tai Yu invoked the ancient Dao Lineage Joint Witness procedure to challenge his leadership. Tai Yu defeated Qingxu and became the seventh Sect Master—the first Martial Warrior ever to lead the Great Luo Sect. 302 304 306

Qingxu’s defeat did not end the crisis. He had secretly exploited the sect’s Thunder Pool, Luck Golden Lotuses, eight centuries of accumulated fortune, and stolen Son of Heaven Dragon Qi to attempt to establish a Dao Country. His failure devastated the sect: many Art Path members had followed him, later dying or fleeing, while the imperial court killed numerous affiliated experts and imposed a prolonged sealing of the mountain. 308 312 327 422 508

Tai Yu preserved the sect through its decline, though its fortune was reduced to less than one-tenth of its former level. He used remaining Luck to support Qingwei Real Person’s breakthrough attempt, but Qingwei initially only achieved Prince-level combat power rather than becoming a True Lord. 568 640

During the Buddhist conflict, Tai Yu rejected an alliance with the Western Extremity Kingdom and ultimately aided the Great Blue Dynasty. His decision earned him appointment as National Preceptor, while Li Fei promised the sect access to the [Forget River] Dao Principles and a future of renewed Peak Experts. 656 661

Following Tai Yu’s appointment, the Great Luo Sect ended its seclusion, reopened its mountain, and began recruiting disciples openly. Its reputation recovered enough for youths from Ming Province and neighboring provinces to seek admission. Qingwei later attained the True Lord realm through the sect’s renowned lightning lineage. 665 708

Sect Grounds

Great Luo Mountain

The sect occupies more than a dozen cloud-shrouded peaks connected by iron chains. The chains range from over 200 to more than 500 meters long and serve as both transportation routes and daily training grounds for disciples. 257

• Great Luo Peak — Main peak and residence of many major sect figures; contains the marble plaza, Great Void Hall, cold pool, and restricted back mountain. 257 304
• Flying Cloud Peak — Known for fierce Aura Wind and shifting cloud seas; Qingwei later serves as its Peak Master and overseer of sect discipline. 640
• Great Luo Town — Prosperous settlement at the foot of the mountain. It supplies the sect and has a direct railway built by the imperial court. 258

Forbidden Area and Thunder Pool

Only the Sect Master wielding the Great Luo Token may enter the back-mountain forbidden area. The token is a True Unity Magical Artifact, symbolizes sect-master authority, controls the Mountain Sealing formation, and grants access to the sect’s restricted locations. 306 308

Within the forbidden area lies the Thunder Pool, created by the Great Luo Ancestor. It links the sect’s fate to the Luck Golden Lotuses cultivated within it; the sect prospers or declines alongside them. 308

Defensive Formations

• Great Myriad Heavens Cloud Forbidden True Thunder Array — Mountain-protecting formation that engulfs the sect’s peaks in cloud and mist, preventing those inside and outside from seeing one another. 640
• Misty Rain No-Leakage Plate formation — A Great Blue Dynasty monitoring formation established around the sect’s own defenses during its sealing; it can survey the entire sect territory. 636

Cultivation Traditions

Dual Cultivation of Magic and Martial Arts

Daoism was the first major force to research the integration of Technique and Martial cultivation. The Great Luo Sect’s rituals and formations can produce a Dual Cultivation effect, though the sect did not fully develop the path that was later realized by Lin Tianyi. 338

Lightning Methods

The sect is renowned for its lightning-based cultivation methods.

• Nine Heavens Cave Profound Lightning Method — Hailed as the strongest lightning method in the world; Qingxu used it to defeat numerous Peak Experts. 708

Disciple Training

The sect’s chain-crossing exercise develops lower-body strength, balance, courage, and mental fortitude. These qualities are especially important for the transition from the Body Breaking Stage to the Qi Transformation Stage. 257

Children are recruited from roughly seven or eight years old. They receive foundational physical training, martial instruction, and elixirs before receiving Implants upon adulthood. 665

Heaven Worship Ceremony

The annual Heaven Worship Ceremony centers on disciples chanting the Treatise on Actions and Retributions. The Enlightenment Bell, a True Unity Magical Artifact left by the founding ancestor, preserves Dao rhythm through the ritual and can grant enlightenment or trigger breakthroughs. 303 338

During one ceremony, thirty-five disciples gained enlightenment and nine broke through on the spot. Ning Chuan reached the Spirit Connection Realm, placing him half a step into Martial Dao Master territory. 339

Organization

The Great Luo Sect possesses twelve peaks. A Real Person or Martial Dao Master may serve as a peak master; reaching either realm also automatically grants the status of sect elder. 304

• Technique faction — Traditionally dominant within the Daoist sects and associated with True Lord Qingxu’s leadership. 304 305
