Number One and Number Five Mutants
Footsteps slowly echoed through the silent corridor.
The group of four soon arrived at the cell holding Number One.
Looking at this cell, which was no less heavily guarded than his own—perhaps even more so—Number Five's eyes flashed with deep wariness.
Even he was extremely wary of the person inside.
Not only because the man inside was powerful, but also because he bore the title of Mutant Killer! At the thought of Pulse Interference, even Number Five's eyes flashed with disgust.
The four of them looked inside.
A burly middle-aged man over two meters tall, whose entire body seemed to be made of brown metal, lay on a white iron bed with his eyes closed.
Hearing the footsteps, Number One opened his eyes and looked over.
"Number One, the base has a mission for you."
Marco, the Prison Guard leading the group, opened the cell door and walked over to help Number One remove his chains.
As the chains fell away, Number One stretched his body. A vicious expression flashed across his face as he spoke in a rough, booming voice. "A mission? There's a mission that needs me?"
"What kind of mission is worth sending me out?"
Looking at the Prison Guards, disdain appeared on his face. He felt they were making a mountain out of a molehill, calling him in for such a trivial matter.
And...
"You're even bringing Number Five?" Anger faintly showed on Number One's metal face. He felt insulted.
Marco glanced at him and said, "The enemy is troublesome—a powerful mutant. And these are Base Chief Alessandro's orders!"
Hearing that the enemy was troublesome, especially that it was a mutant, Number One cared even less. His expression grew irritable, and he was about to sneer and mock him.
However, when he heard the name Alessandro, the mocking look on his face froze and was replaced by respect.
Number Five beside him wore much the same expression.
Marco smiled, turned, and led them outside.
They walked out, passing through the area where the ordinary prisoners were held.
In an instant, the prisoners who had been chatting shut their mouths. The place became utterly silent, so quiet one could hear a pin drop.
"It's Number One and Number Five!"
Looking at Number One's metallic gleam and Number Five's calm, indifferent face, the prisoners fell silent in fear, their eyes faintly filled with terror.
No one knew better than them how terrifying those two monsters were! They still remembered how, once, a muscular Black man had tried to harass Number Five. Even under the suppression of the Mutant Controller, Number Five had forcibly unleashed Energy Impact.
Red energy engulfed the man in an instant. In less than two seconds, he had turned into a lump of charcoal and collapsed to the ground, dying horribly! Not to mention that Number Five possessed Super Speed Self-Healing. He was like an unkillable cockroach; no one could stand against him! Number One was even more direct—he had blown apart anyone who provoked him with a single punch, sending blood and severed limbs flying everywhere. No one knew how many people had wet themselves in terror that day! And afterward, no matter who it was, anyone who provoked them never met a good end! So whether they were ordinary prisoners or mutants, everyone feared those two—not only because of their strength, but also because of their ruthless cruelty. They killed without batting an eye.
Number One glanced at them, mockery flashing through his eyes. He looked down on them immensely—or rather, he looked down on anyone ranked below him.
After they left, the prisoners began discussing it.
"Why are those three taking Number One and Number Five away?"
"Did you forget about Number Thirty-Seven?"
The prisoners who had been confused immediately understood, then began to gloat and pity him.
"Number Thirty-Seven is really finished this time. No one can stand against those two monsters!"
"Yeah, even if Number Thirty-Seven is pretty strong, he's done for this time!"
"Ugh, I hope Number Thirty-Seven survives..."
Even the Freckled Youth who had spoken to Su Yao before shook his head.
"May God bless you!"
By then, people had already begun placing bets—whether Number Thirty-Seven would be brought back with all four limbs broken or die an unnatural death. In any case, not a single person thought Number One and Number Five would fail.
After leaving the Experimental Base, Number Five frowned slightly and asked, "Where are you taking us? To find the target of this mission you mentioned?"
Marco smiled faintly. "Number Thirty-Seven is difficult to locate. That guy keeps changing locations, so we need to wait for a mutant codenamed Hound."
"But Hound is currently on a mission and can't come yet, so we'll have to wait a while."
As he spoke, he led the way ahead and continued.
"Right now, I'm taking you to capture another mutant, so you can get used to each other and maybe even learn to cooperate. That way, you won't make any mistakes when dealing with Number Thirty-Seven."
At the mention of cooperation, both Number One and Number Five looked unconcerned.
They believed they did not need to cooperate. They could deal with Number Thirty-Seven on their own.
And Number Thirty-Seven? Number One was faintly angered. "You made such a big deal out of this just to send us after that so-called Number Thirty-Seven?"
The moment he heard the ranking Number Thirty-Seven, he knew how strong Number Thirty-Seven was.
Thinking that, contempt faintly appeared on his face.
Number Five beside him also looked incredulous, as though he had misheard.
A mere Number Thirty-Seven was worth sending them out? Marco looked at them and explained, "Once we capture the other mutant, I'll explain it to you. I'll also show you the file footage on Number Thirty-Seven."
"Remember, Number Thirty-Seven is not easy to deal with. He's not as simple as you think."
Even after hearing that, Number One and Number Five still looked unconcerned. They even felt Marco was making a fuss, asking them to watch some file footage—it was laughable! Did this man not know the power the two of them possessed? The five got into the vehicle and drove off into the distance.
Half an hour later...
They stopped outside the front gate of a house.
After getting out, Marco removed the Mutant Controllers from Number One and Number Five.
Only then did they walk toward the target's house.
Bang bang bang! After a round of knocking, a teenager's voice came from inside.
"Who is it?"
With a click, the front door opened.
A head of blond hair appeared through the gap.
Fabien, whose face looked very youthful, watched them in confusion. Then his expression abruptly changed.
Whether it was Number One's inhuman metal body or the Prison Guard uniforms Marco and the others wore, both made unease rise in his heart.
Bang! Marco braced the door that was about to close with his hand and said sternly, "We received a report from the public saying that Mr. Fabien, you used supernatural abilities..."
