Background / History

Su Yao was originally a human from Earth who transmigrated into the body of a sixteen-year-old mutant imprisoned as Experiment No. 37. Subjected to repeated experiments and abuse, he initially had only 83 days to live and resolved to escape and destroy the experimental base responsible for his condition. 1

His first known abilities appeared weak: sunlight restored his energy, eased his injuries, and could replace food. The hidden Mimicry panel, however, identified Orochi—“Sun God” and “Earth’s Will”—as his target, giving Su Yao a route to unlock a growing arsenal of powers through accumulated Light Energy. 1 3

After escaping the facility, Su Yao was rescued by Chris, a former Brotherhood member who learned from stolen documents that Su Yao carried the genes of Magneto and Professor X. Su Yao remained cautious about revealing his identity and powers, but his battles against police and military forces exposed Black Particle, teleportation, Reflection Shield, and solar absorption to the public. 8 14

His confrontation with Black Phoenix Jean forced his Orochi panel to 100% and triggered a catastrophic loss of control. A sun-like manifestation above his head erased buildings, streets, and much of a city into dust; the backlash subsequently reset his panel and locked his abilities until he restored them with the Cosmic Cube. 74 76 81

Su Yao later expanded beyond Orochi’s power set through Scarlet Witch and Balder mimicry panels. As the Messiah and the White-Clothed Hero, he fought Sentinels, rejected attempts to recruit or capture him, aided Thor against the Destroyer Armor, and developed into a recognized Omega Mutant. 88 90 97 114 395

As his strength increased, Su Yao began acting against threats on an increasingly larger scale. He fought Apocalypse, the Old God, Surtur, Sentinel forces, and Celestial Judge Arishem; he also helped Wolverine’s group resist Sentinels in the future and supplied the X-Men with military-base locations. 141 232 332 359 395 455

Su Yao’s appearance changes depending on his disguise, Mimicry state, and divine manifestations. His publicly known identities are often concealed by white clothing and a mask, while his original appearance is associated with black clothing. 85 457
