Because swallowing one meant that Phyrexian Oil would enter its body along with the biomass, Compleating it from within, severing it from the Hive Mind's control, and turning it into part of New Phyrexia.
Even worse, if the Compleated creature was a Node Organism, then under the effects of the Intai Network, other nearby bugs would also break free of the Hive Mind's control.
