He Feng was known in the Capital City as a noble, talented young master. Before meeting Qin Yuyao, he was emotionally tied to his childhood sweetheart, Xiao Ruoyun; the Emperor's arrangement for her to become the Crown Prince's secondary consort drove He Feng to distance himself from her. 257

Qin Yuyao first met him on a bridge after he saved her from falling. Though he declined her invitation because of an existing commitment to Xiao Ruoyun, his indifference prompted Qin Yuyao to begin pursuing him. 258
