Background / History

The Supreme Dragon Tiger Sect is one of the Three Sects of the Daoist Path, alongside the Taiping Sect and Wondrous Aid True Sect. It rose to prominence through its support for the Second Yanhan Empire, became a leading orthodox force, and maintained close ties with the Imperial Court. Its alliance with the court included broadly circulating the Ten Directions Beast Art and admitting qualified official cultivators as disciples. 96

The sect’s power was historically concentrated in the Zhang family. Zhang Taiyi, a former true disciple, possessed access to high-grade sect inheritances and used the sect’s methods in his External Elixir cultivation before his death. The sect later dispatched disciples to trace Zhang Taiyi and recover the Divine Firmament Thunder Seal. 96 231

During the conflict at the Nine Palaces Grotto-heaven, the sect’s Dragon Tiger Blessed Land was attacked by the Demonic Heresy Path. Its Five Elements Dragon Tiger Great Formation held against demonic cultivators until a Dharma Body-level enemy entered the battle, exposing the sect’s shortage of high-level reinforcements. 390 392

The sect suffered its greatest disaster when six Demonic Path Primordial Spirits attacked Dragon Tiger Mountain. Zhong Shenxiu’s true body shattered the mountain gate with the Immortal Slaying Flying Sword while his second Primordial Spirit attacked from within, breaking the mountain-protecting formation. Rogue and demonic cultivators subsequently looted the sect; Star Palace was destroyed and True Sun Hall exploded. 504 506

Pure Bright Dao Marvelous True Monarch Zhang Guiji later returned injured, sealed Dragon Tiger Mountain, and withdrew the sect from external affairs for one hundred years. 608 After Zhong Shenxiu attained the Dharma Body realm, he confronted Zhang Guiji, who accepted his death and acknowledged Zhong Shenxiu as a potential successor. Zhong Shenxiu eliminated resistant Zhang-family cultivators and became Sect Master. 687

The Zhang family formerly dominated the sect’s leadership, with successive Sect Masters generally bearing the Zhang surname. Its influence declined sharply following Zhong Shenxiu’s succession. 688

The sect’s fundamental great method is the Supreme One Dragon Tiger Governing True Seal Divine Method, a lineage said to lead toward the Corpse Release Immortal realm. Full transmission is restricted until the Primordial Spirit realm. 96
