Victor himself did not think there was much to worry about regarding his subordinates' concern for his safety. After all, the follow-up forces of his Guards would arrive within a day at the latest.

At present, this camp held nearly two thousand of his heavy infantry and over a thousand militiamen, more than enough to ensure his safety.

With these troops and the camp's already completed defensive facilities, Victor had absolute confidence that even an attack by ten thousand Barbarians would be unable to breach this place.

Moreover, with the Border Fortress and defensive lines blocking the way ahead, it was simply impossible for the Barbarians to send such a large force across the border.

Small-scale units could still make it through, of course. During this period, unable to break through the fortress, the Barbarians had repeatedly dispatched small cavalry units in an attempt to find routes across the border.

However, the northwestern border region of Two Rivers County was filled with vast swamps and rugged red-earth rocky hills. Even with extensive manpower devoted to surveying the area, they could only uncover a few narrow paths, which could still only accommodate scattered units. Large armies simply could not cross.

Even if they did get through, they would be unable to transport much in the way of supplies. Aside from the iron mine that had already been transformed into a semi-militarized fortress, there were no settlements to be found anywhere in the entire northwestern border region. A Barbarian army that came in would only go hungry and find nothing to loot.

Furthermore, the few narrow paths discovered by the Barbarians had long been watched by the border patrol cavalry arranged by James. If the Barbarians tried to use those paths, they could not possibly hide it from the border forces.
