After Gaita led his men away, several people emerged from the tavern and quietly followed him.
Gaita returned to the Governor's Mansion and reported back to Viscount Krick.
"It's good that it was delivered. I never expected the Northern Frontier Chamber of Commerce to truly be a hidden pawn of the Northern Alliance Army. Viscount Yorich is the Grand Duke's cousin, even one of the top twenty heirs to the Grand Duchy. Why would he do this?"
Viscount Krick was equally surprised after hearing Gaita's report.
"I'm not entirely sure either. But even blood brothers from noble families can become bitter enemies over inheritance rights. Viscount Yorich's actions aren't strange!"
Gaita's words made Viscount Krick nod. That was indeed true.
With that thought in mind, Viscount Krick turned to Gaita. "Gaita, you've followed me for a year now. I appreciate you greatly and trust you.
"I believe you have what it takes to become a noble. You are a more suitable heir than your elder brother. If you continue to assist me wholeheartedly in the coming operation and help the Northern Alliance Army take Blackwater City, I guarantee that I will support your inheritance of your father's title. What do you say?"
Hearing this, Gaita lowered his head deeply and said in an extremely emotional tone, "My Lord Governor, Gaita will always remember your kindness. I will absolutely do my utmost to assist you in achieving your great cause!"
Krick nodded in satisfaction at Gaita's words. His original intention of getting rid of Gaita faded considerably, and he felt that he had completely seized Gaita's weakness.
Yet Gaita's expression did not match his words at all. He looked utterly disdainful, as though Krick's words were complete nonsense.
Afterward, under Viscount Krick's orders, Gaita was granted command over the Governor's Guard.
