Battle Report and Spoils

After hearing Victor's words, Geshilton's troubled expression immediately changed. He asked in disbelief, "My lord, is this... Tax Rebate Policy really true?"

Geshilton had been involved in commerce for more than a decade, yet he had never heard of such a policy. Victor's words left him somewhat unable to process it.

"Of course it's true. Although I can't produce too much money right now, my reputation should be enough of a guarantee, shouldn't it?"

"The specific distribution standards will need some time to determine, but I guarantee that at least half of the commercial tax revenue will be used as subsidies for the merchant guilds."

"Of course. Your reputation is beyond question."

"I'll contact the other merchant guilds right away and organize everyone to discuss this. We'll work together to restore Blackwater City's trade routes and commercial activity."

"Half! Hehehe!"

With that, Geshilton turned and left, running down the stairs along the edge of the city wall. He was probably too excited, stumbling all the way and nearly falling several times.

Gaita watched Geshilton's departing figure before turning to Victor. "Viscount Victor, your Tax Rebate Policy is truly brilliant. Just looking at Geshilton's reaction, it's obvious that none of the other merchant guilds will be able to refuse such terms."

To Gaita's surprise, Victor immediately replied, "Don't call me that!"

That frightened Gaita badly. But when he saw Victor looking at him with a smile, he suddenly understood and quickly corrected himself. "My lord!"

Victor nodded and signaled for him to continue. Gaita's face flushed with excitement. He knew that he had now officially joined Victor's ranks.

"My lord, isn't offering half of the commercial tax revenue all at once a little too much?"

"According to Blackwater City's previous records, summer and autumn are the busiest seasons for merchant caravans.
