Victor stood at the edge of the field, with Rabik and several stewards from the Sugar Beet Plantation following behind him.
Victor observed the beet field in front of him, then squatted down without hesitation. He reached through the beet leaves, gripped the root, and prepared to pull the beet out by its roots.
One of the stewards behind Rabik wanted to step forward and help. He knew that although the beets had not yet matured, the soil here was so hard that someone like Victor could not possibly pull one out by brute force.
But after he had taken only two steps, Victor gave a low shout and pulled the beet out, roots, soil, and all.
"Damn it, how can the Marquis be so strong?"
As the steward muttered in amazement, Rabik had already passed him and walked over to Victor.
Rabik watched as Victor gave the beet's roots a few casual slaps, knocked off the soil, and carefully examined the beet in his hand. He then silently stood behind Victor.
Victor suddenly asked, "Is this beet field newly cultivated by us this year?"
Rabik hurried forward to explain, "Yes, Your Excellency. This entire field was newly cultivated this year. Before this year, we planted alfalfa here for silage. I was present when we first sowed the beet seeds."
Rabik then signaled with his eyes for the several stewards behind him to quickly back him up.
"Yes, Your Excellency. This entire area was newly cultivated this year.
"When we first began sowing, Lord Rabik stayed here the whole time. He followed the work for several days in a row."
"That's right. Lord Rabik even guided us on how to sow the seeds sometimes!"
"Lord Rabik is also highly skilled at farm work. He handles the heavy plow better than
