Victor was sampling a lamb chop. Even setting aside the spices, the cooking technique alone impressed him: it had been prepared using the confit method. The chop had been trimmed of any large pieces of fat, yet the meat remained wonderfully tender and rich with flavor.

And the lamb was not the only treat. Victor had also tried fried shrimp prepared in a style reminiscent of typhoon shelter shrimp, along with beef soup under a flaky pastry crust. Raine Kingdom's cooking had clearly reached an impressive level. At the very least, the kingdom was prosperous enough to support people who could devote their time to refining culinary techniques.

Brando came up beside Victor, his face full of pleading. "Godfather, I want another piece of honey cake!"

Victor patted Brando's head. "Brando, you should eat more fish, shrimp, and beef. They'll help you grow smarter and stronger. Don't keep filling up on cake."
