He focused those preparations on training the troops. Supplies had been ready for some time, but the second-line forces still needed work.

In particular, there were the five thousand cavalry under Horne from the Blood Scorpion Tribe, nearly two thousand auxiliary troops drawn from three subordinate tribes, and close to ten thousand militia assigned to the Northwestern Border Defense Line by the territory.
