"Why are you here?"
Kira Yoshikage's reply was as calm as ever:
"As you can see, I'm working."
"Why are you working here?"
"Because the hourly wage is high."
Kira Yoshikage's answer was quite sincere.
"How high?"
"2000 Yen."
"That is indeed very high."
Yukino Yukinoshita nodded slightly, then suddenly asked:
"Have I come looking for you before?"
"Not to my knowledge."
Sakurajima Mai blinked, her expression somewhat subtle.
She could tell these two seemed to have some history. But judging by their conversation, it didn't seem like it, as their dialogue was as bland as water, with a hint of awkwardness.
Yukino Yukinoshita finally turned her head with a hint of impatience:
"So, how long are you going to keep listening?"
Sakurajima Mai looked around a few times, appearing a bit confused. There was no one else.
Sakurajima Mai hesitated and pointed to herself:
"Are you talking about me?"
"Who else would I be talking about?"
Yukino Yukinoshita retorted unceremoniously.
Sakurajima Mai blinked, hesitated, and then asked as if confirming:
"You can see me? Are you a Psionic User too?"
Yukino Yukinoshita's eyes flickered slightly, but she quickly regained her composure, her tone cold:
"No wonder my sister's actions just now were so rude. You mean she couldn't see you?"
For a well-bred Young Miss, even someone with the terrible personality of Yukino Haruno would politely ask someone to leave if she wanted to take their place, rather than directly pushing them out of their seat.
No wonder she felt something was strange from the start. So that's why?
Sakurajima Mai was a little curious:
"What's your relationship?"
Yukino Yukinoshita said indifferently:
"As you can see, classmates."
Sakurajima Mai rolled her eyes. She wasn't stupid; how could they be just ordinary middle school classmates?
"What's your relationship?"
Yukino Yukinoshita stared intently at Kira Yoshikage:
"Didn't you say you wanted a peaceful life? Then why are you here? And involved with her?"
Sakurajima Mai almost immediately caught the subtext and ran with it, imagining a little drama – did Kira Yoshikage once reject this girl with the excuse of 'wanting a peaceful life'?
Sakurajima Mai perked up her ears, wanting to indulge in a little gossip.
Sakurajima Mai sensed the situation was getting out of hand and kindly explained:
"Miss Yukinoshita, I think you've misunderstood something."
"Kira-kun just wants me to become a Miko to worship the school's Deity. That's all."
"Deity?"
Yukino Yukinoshita's frown deepened.
She ignored Sakurajima Mai and looked up at Kira Yoshikage, her voice still crisp and cold:
"End it. Blow everything up, just like before. Start everything anew."
"Then I won't bother you again."
Sakurajima Mai's expression grew even more subtle. What did 'blow everything up' mean? What did 'start anew' mean?
She really wanted to ask, but after saying those words, Yukino Yukinoshita sat there motionlessly, looking as if she was ready to face death.
"There's no need for that."
Kira Yoshikage replied to her in the same calm tone.
"Are you sure?"
Yukino Yukinoshita retorted.
Kira Yoshikage didn't answer her, continuing his main job—polishing glasses.
Truthfully, he wasn't that busy, but he had to act like it. He'd polish glasses when he had nothing else to do.
At the very least, he had to make the boss think he was busy and earning his keep.
As the seconds ticked by, Yukino Yukinoshita's expression gradually shifted to surprise:
"Are you really not going to blow it all up?"
Sakurajima Mai couldn't help but retort:
"Why do you make it sound like Kira-kun is some kind of demolition maniac."
Yukino Yukinoshita ignored her, or rather, couldn't be bothered to explain.
Bzzzt! Bzzzt! Bzzzt!
Kira Yoshikage's phone, placed under the bar counter, lit up. It was a text message from an unfamiliar number, containing only a few short lines:
"Kira-kun, long time no see. Ah, no, it should be, first time meeting."
"Kira-kun, your new toys are in danger."
"If the toys get broken, and the police come knocking, your peace will be shattered, and you'll definitely be angry, right Kira-kun?"
"But I don't want to save them. After all, they're quintuplets~ I wouldn't even save them if it was just their hands!"
"So, Kira-kun, can you save them yourself?"
"The address is 1-1-15 Mita, Minato Ward, Tokyo Metropolis."
Kira Yoshikage frowned slightly.
He didn't know who sent the text, but he could already foresee the police inevitably tracking him down through this message, shattering the peace he had painstakingly maintained! The only way to prevent this from happening was to resolve the issue before it even arose.
Kira Yoshikage glanced at the time. There was still some time left until closing. He turned his gaze to his colleague nearby, who was watching him with envy:
"Yamada-kun, could you cover for me for a bit?"
"No problem!"
Yamada-kun, hearing his name, spotted the beautiful black-haired girl in front of the bar and eagerly jogged over.
He had seen it clearly just now; this black-haired girl was brought by Miss Yukinoshita!
Moreover, their appearances were about seventy percent similar, and even their names were extremely close.
She must be Miss Yukinoshita's younger sister!
Yamada-kun respectfully asked:
"Miss, what would you like to drink?"
Yukino Yukinoshita ignored him and turned away from the bar, walking towards the elevator.
Sakurajima Mai hesitated, remaining in place, intending to wait for Kira Yoshikage to return.
Yukino Yukinoshita stopped and looked back, asking:
"Are you sure you're not coming? He's already left."
"Huh? But..."
Sakurajima Mai was sure Kira Yoshikage hadn't left this floor, as he hadn't gone in the direction of the elevator.
Yet, Sakurajima Mai inexplicably felt that Yukino Yukinoshita might be right. Kira-kun had left, in a way she didn't understand.
After a moment of hesitation, Sakurajima Mai decided to follow Yukino Yukinoshita.
Even though she didn't know what was happening, her intuition told her it was best not to be left alone here.
Chapter 61: You All Have Some Serious Issues
In the descending elevator, Sakurajima Mai couldn't help but ask the aloof girl:
"Miss Yukinoshita, what exactly is going on?"
Yukino Yukinoshita didn't turn around, instead asking:
"Do you know about Stands?"
"No."
Sakurajima Mai answered truthfully.
This answer seemed to surprise Yukino Yukinoshita, who glanced at Sakurajima Mai with some astonishment.
"It seems you truly don't understand at all."
The black-haired girl didn't hide her suspicion:
"Why would he choose someone like you to be a Miko?"
Having been indirectly insulted several times for no reason, even Sakurajima Mai couldn't help but get a little angry and retorted:
"Who knows? Maybe it's because my boobs are bigger."
As she spoke, Sakurajima Mai pointedly stared at Yukino Yukinoshita's chest.
Yukino Yukinoshita's expression froze, and she stared blankly at Sakurajima Mai.
Sakurajima Mai, not to be outdone, also stared intently at Yukino Yukinoshita.
"Ding dong!"
The elevator doors, having reached the first floor, slowly opened.
Yukino Yukinoshita expressionlessly withdrew her gaze and turned to walk out of the elevator.
She didn't want to be seen as a lunatic glaring at 'thin air.'
Sakurajima Mai silently followed beside Yukino Yukinoshita, accompanying her through the lobby, out of the hotel, and into a black car parked at the entrance.
"Get in."
Yukino Yukinoshita, in the driver's seat, rolled down the window.
Sakurajima Mai hesitated for a moment before pulling open the passenger door.
"Where are we going?"
Sakurajima Mai asked, fastening her seatbelt, confused.
"I don't know."
Yukino Yukinoshita, looking down at her phone, replied without looking up:
"I'm waiting for him to give me the address."
Sakurajima Mai knew that 'he' referred to Kira Yoshikage, and she tried to use this opportunity to continue their previous conversation:
"So, what exactly is a Stand?"
Yukino Yukinoshita looked up and glanced at the girl in the passenger seat, her tone indifferent:
Before you continue
