Background / History

Rise as Sunagakure’s Hero

Pakura rose from the bottom of Sunagakure’s hierarchy through countless missions and accumulated military achievements. Her supporters among shinobi and civilians numbered at least ten thousand, earning her the title Hero of Sunagakure 33.

Unlike Rasa, who had been the Third Kazekage’s disciple, Pakura belonged to no political faction. Her popular support and achievements increasingly threatened the Kazekage and the Elder Council, who feared losing their positions and control over the village’s interests 86 87.

Third Shinobi World War

While investigating killings linked to the Underground Exchange, Pakura captured an Akatsuki member and entered a three-way standoff with Minato Namikaze’s Konoha group and Kitsuchi’s Iwagakure group 33 36 37.

She rejected Minato’s proposed peace arrangement, arguing that Konoha used alliances to seize Sunagakure’s mission commissions through lower prices. Her declaration that the victor should rule precipitated a battle, during which she fought Minato and considered using close-range Scorch Release detonations against his Flying Thunder God Technique 39 42.

After recovering the bodies of her three companions, Pakura approached Asuka to learn how far Amegakure’s negotiations with Konoha had progressed. She considered abducting Asuka if necessary, but Hanzo’s arrival forced her to negotiate instead 45.

Defeat by Mingren

Rasa later sent Pakura to Amegakure to help take Asuka hostage and establish a puppet regime. The assignment was also intended to expose her to a potentially fatal confrontation with Hanzo; Rasa dispatched ANBU to monitor her movements 86.

Mingren intercepted her and warned that Sunagakure’s leadership would eventually sacrifice her. Pakura rejected his warning and fought him, initially injuring him with a Wind Release-coated kunai. His recovery, immunity to her poison, and ability to dismantle her fireballs overturned her expectations 87 88.

Cornered, she used Maki’s sealing scroll to momentarily immobilize him, then discharged all her remaining Scorch Release chakra in an explosion that engulfed them both. The attack left Pakura unconscious and near death. Konoha shinobi carried her to a camp, where Chiyo treated her with the Mystical Palm Technique 90.

The surrounding forces mistakenly concluded that she had fought and possibly killed Hanzo. Although Pakura privately described Mingren’s strength to Chiyo, the misunderstanding persisted and further increased her reputation 91.

Sunagakure’s Betrayal

Pakura returned to a hero’s welcome, while Rasa and the elders secured a proposed ceasefire with Kirigakure at the price of her life. Kirigakure specifically demanded her sacrifice because of the many Mist shinobi she had killed 93.

During the resulting secret mission, more than fifty Mist shinobi surrounded her in the Land of Water. Suikazan Fuguki and Raiga Kurosuki led the ambush, with Fuguki’s immense chakra and Samehada chosen to counter her techniques 95 96.

A scroll confirmed that Sunagakure had sold her out. The revelation shattered her loyalty and filled her with despair and hatred. Mingren intervened before the ambushers could kill her 97.

Defection and Amegakure’s Liberation

After the rescue, Pakura attempted to kill Suiren, treating both Sand and Mist shinobi as enemies. Mingren stopped her and offered a practical route to revenge: use her still-respected identity to enter occupied Amegakure and rescue Asuka 102 103.

The plan worked because the occupying forces had not learned of her betrayal. Guards recognized her chakra and admitted her, while the village representatives allowed her to reach Asuka in the Central Tower without suspicion 104 105.

Pakura helped initiate the rescue operation and slashed through the Sunagakure emblem on her forehead protector as fighting broke out. At that point, she did not intend to become an Amegakure shinobi 107 110.

Her allegiance subsequently changed. During Mingren’s public address, she confirmed Sunagakure’s betrayal, declared her loyalty to him, and acknowledged that a man without a bloodline had defeated her Scorch Release. Amegakure’s hostility toward her shifted into sympathy 118.

Sunagakure’s leadership spread the claim that she was controlled by enemy genjutsu and planned to eliminate returning prisoners who knew the truth. By the later Chunin Exam, Pakura wore an Amegakure forehead protector, openly identifying with her new village 119 132 332.

Revenge and Service to the Land of Rain

Pakura trained obsessively after defecting. She developed Scorching Release Chakra Mode, then acquired Dark Chakra-enhanced power and challenged Rasa. Mingren ended their first documented confrontation before her limited experience with the new power and Rasa’s reserves could decide the fight 128 184 199 203.

She also fought the Seven-Tails jinchuriki to a stalemate, unable to overcome her opponent’s aerial mobility. During the Land of Demons crisis, she fought alongside Asuka against the possessed daimyo and later Shisui Uchiha, whose Susanoo forced them to seek reinforcements 143 228 229 230 231.

At the Chunin Exam, Pakura served as part of the group positioned behind the Land of Rain’s daimyo. She attacked Rasa after the confrontation began, overwhelmed his Gold Dust defenses with concentrated heat, and forced him underground. Mingren restrained her when she approached a berserk state 353 363 365.

Rasa’s eventual death slowed her progress: with a major source of hatred removed, she had, in the narration’s terms, been partially redeemed. Ying later defeated her in a prolonged duel, prompting Pakura to accept Mingren’s new training method 417 424 425.

After improving, Pakura accompanied Mingren to the Land of Lightning and fought Yugito Nii’s complete Two-Tails transformation. She then traveled with him to the Land of Fire, acting as his observer and confidante as he explained his plans concerning Yugito and Akatsuki 427 429 431.

Protection of Maki and Sunagakure’s Conquest

During the Fourth Great Ninja War, Pakura disappeared through space-time ninjutsu. Inside Fugaku Uchiha’s dojutsu dimension, she defended both herself and Maki against numerous attackers, refusing to abandon the disciple she had raised 610 614.

Pakura insisted that Mingren would rescue them and wanted to prove that he would not sacrifice his subordinates as Sunagakure had. He arrived as she prepared a massive plasma attack; after recovering, she carried Maki toward Hanzo and the others 614 617.

Later, she resolved to train Maki properly once they escaped a special prison. By then, she had already reached Six Paths level and had been selected to lead the conquest of Sunagakure 699 708.

Pakura declared the assault and defeated Gaara. Temari and Kankuro rescued him, and Sasuke helped them escape through a portal. Amegakure’s forces destroyed Sunagakure’s remaining shinobi establishment, leaving Genin survivors and ending the regime against which Pakura had maintained a twenty-year grudge 699 720 721.

Appearance

Pakura is described as a fair-skinned, beautiful woman with a curvaceous figure and long legs. Her Scorch Release bloodline protects her skin from the Land of Wind’s heat, wind, and sand 33 57 429.

  • Usual clothing: A fitted sleeveless top, short safety shorts, and a backless design 57.
  • Forehead protector: Originally Sunagakure’s; later marked with a defection slash, then replaced by Amegakure’s 110 118 332.
  • Youthful appearance: Years later, Maki observes that Pakura appears several years younger than she does 332.
  • Chakra-mode appearance: Wrapped in flames resembling a fire goddess; Dark Chakra turns the flames pitch-black 184 429.

Personality

Pakura is proud, confrontational, and initially convinced of her bloodline’s superiority. Nevertheless, she is an experienced combatant who can calm herself, reassess an opponent, and change tactics after an unfavorable exchange 87 88 89 424.

Her early loyalty is directed toward Sunagakure and its people rather than a political faction. Betrayal turns that devotion into intense hatred of Rasa and the Elder Council, sometimes broadening into indiscriminate hostility toward other shinobi. Mingren and Jūzō Biwa both intervene when her anger threatens to override her judgment 87 102 118 290 365.

Pakura retains affection for Maki despite their conflicting loyalties. She encourages her disciple’s sealing talent and later risks exhausting herself to protect her. She also develops trust in Mingren’s willingness to rescue his followers, contrasting him directly with Sunagakure’s leadership 93 614.

Her defeats remain a source of insecurity. After Ying surpasses her, Pakura accepts difficult training because she refuses to remain subordinate to her rival. Witnessing Mingren remove another shinobi’s bloodline also forces her to reconsider the security of her own inherited power 424 425 569.

Abilities & Skills

Scorch Release

Pakura’s kekkei genkai combines thermal radiation, hot wind, extreme temperatures, explosions, and cutting wind blades 86 90.

  • Internal dehydration: Contact with a fireball can evaporate a target’s body from within, leaving a dried husk 88.
  • Defense penetration: Pierces conventional Earth and Fire Release defenses; ordinary Water Release defenses are less effective against it than against Fire Release 86.
  • Wide-area destruction: Her all-out attack exceeds 1,000 degrees Celsius and engulfs everything within fifty meters, pulverizing rocks with heat and tiny wind blades 90.
  • Subsurface attacks: Sends fireballs through the earth to strike an opponent from below 230.
  • Friendly-fire risk: Its killing range makes approaching her attacks dangerous even for allies 228.

Elemental Resistance

Scorch Release alters Pakura’s body, giving her strong resistance to heat, fire, and wind 33 429.

  • Can detonate her techniques at close range as a counterattack 42.
  • Emerges unharmed from a large fireball launched by Yugito’s complete Two-Tails form 429.
  • Resistance is not absolute: her final attack against Mingren exceeds her limits and leaves her unconscious 90.
  • Before developing Chakra Mode, blades and other direct physical injuries remain a significant vulnerability 86.

Scorching Release Chakra Mode

This mode coats her entire body in Scorch Release chakra rather than limiting its effects to projected fireballs 184.

  • Greatly increases movement speed, defense, and offensive power.
  • Hot winds shred or deflect incoming kunai and shuriken.
  • Physical contact can inject Scorch Release into a target, roasting or rupturing the body from within.
  • Enables sustained heat-wave attacks and improved flight.
  • Can rapidly deplete surrounding oxygen and raise the temperature of an enclosed space 184.

Dark Scorching Release Chakra Mode

Dark Chakra amplifies her existing mode and produces black flames and fireballs 229 429.

  • Raises speed, strength, offense, and defense simultaneously 429.
  • Generates large black fireballs capable of destroying barriers 229.
  • Can form a 3,000-degree defensive wall and gather plasma clouds for a much larger detonation 614.
  • Her attacks force Yugito to expend chakra maintaining her transformation, shortening its duration; they do not initially penetrate the complete form’s defenses 429.
  • Negative emotions strengthen her Dark Chakra but can also destabilize her behavior 291 365 417.

Flight and Mobility

Pakura flies using the heated airflow generated by Scorch Release and can use an attack’s recoil to reposition in midair 86 88.

  • Her original flight is inefficient enough that traveling on foot is faster 119.
  • Chakra Mode substantially improves her aerial movement 184.
  • The Seven-Tails jinchuriki’s superior flight speed prevents Pakura from landing decisive hits during their standoff 143.

Combat Experience and Auxiliary Techniques

Pakura draws on extensive mission experience, including repeated battles against Kirigakure’s Water Release users 87 93.

  • Wind Release-coated kunai: Uses a supersonic attack that pierces Mingren’s chest 86 87.
  • Poison: Uses poison against Mingren, but his immunity renders it ineffective 88.
  • Tactical analysis: Collaborates with Asuka to identify the exposed feet beneath Shisui’s ribcage Susanoo and coordinate a feint 230.
  • Known counters: Samehada absorbs her chakra-based fireballs; Fuguki’s large-scale Water Release overwhelms her elemental techniques 96.
  • Defensive limits: Her fireballs initially fail to damage Shisui’s ribcage Susanoo 230.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Kunai — Used with Wind Release chakra and to slash her Sunagakure forehead protector 86 87 110.
  • Maki’s sealing scroll — A gift containing a powerful sealing formula. Pakura activates it to briefly immobilize Mingren before her final attack 90 93.
  • Forehead protectors — Her slashed Sunagakure protector marks her defection; the later Amegakure protector confirms her accepted allegiance 118 332.
  • Self-repairing Chakra Armor combat suit — Supplied by Mingren. Uses Gelel Stone power to regenerate damaged material and has a memory function allowing adjustments to its design 427.

Relationships

  • Amakawa Mingren — Initially an opponent whose warnings she rejects; later her rescuer, leader, and trainer. She publicly pledges loyalty to him and trusts that he will not abandon his subordinates 87 118 424 425 614.
  • Maki — Disciple raised from childhood. Pakura praises her sealing talent, clashes with her over Sunagakure’s actions, and later protects her inside Fugaku’s dimension 93 199 365 614.
  • Rasa — Former Kazekage and principal target of her revenge. He conspires to sacrifice her because her influence threatens his position 86 93 199 365.
  • Sunagakure Elder Council — Political enemies who approve her sacrifice, discredit her testimony, and spread the claim that she is controlled by genjutsu 93 94 132.
  • Chiyo — Treats Pakura after her near-fatal defeat and hears her private account of Mingren’s strength 90 91.
  • Asuka — Initially a prospective hostage and enemy; later a rescue target and combat partner. Asuka risks injury to save her from Shisui’s attack 45 105 106 230 231.
  • Ying — Sparring partner and rival. Ying’s Dark Sage Mode eventually surpasses Pakura, motivating her renewed training 417 424.
  • Jūzō Biwa and Ringo Ameyuri — Fellow Land of Rain shinobi. Jūzō stops her from massacring a crowd during a mission, and the three coordinate their defense against Ying’s large-scale attack 290 295.
  • Suikazan Fuguki and Raiga Kurosuki — Leaders of the Kirigakure ambush arranged to kill her 95 96.
  • Gaara — Opposing Kazekage during the conquest of Sunagakure; defeated by Pakura’s Six Paths-level strength 720 721.
