Elmont stood beside a freshly loaded super-heavy mortar, staring at its black muzzle with excitement gleaming in his eyes. He took the linstock from the gun captain and grinned at him. "I'll fire this one myself!"
The gun captain hurriedly stepped back, yielding his place to the eager general. Elmont took a deep breath, extended the linstock toward the touch hole on the barrel, then turned his head and covered one ear with a hand.
"Hiss—" The fuse caught, crackling as it burned for a moment.
Then—
"BOOM—!!!"
A thunderous blast shook the heavens and earth, as though the ground itself had leapt! The massive mortar recoiled violently, its muzzle belching a dense plume of smoke and flame. A heavy stone shot was hurled high into the air, tracing an arc through the sky before crashing into Frosgard with a terrifying howl!
"BOOM—!!!"
In the distance, a huge building—perhaps a warehouse or barracks—was struck dead-on by the stone shot and collapsed with a roar beneath the tremendous impact! Its roof shattered, its walls crumbled, and several Sauron archers stationed atop it were buried beneath the rubble before they could even scream, their fate unknown.
Elmont lowered the hand covering his ear and watched the rising dust and collapsed building in the distance. He could not help throwing back his head in laughter. "Hahaha! Splendid! Absolutely splendid! What a shame that old Hector isn't here to see this feast! He'll never see such a magnificent sight in his lifetime!"
After laughing his fill, he turned to the artillerymen busily loading their guns and roared, "Keep going! Keep firing! Lord Karl has ordered it! Don't save a single shell! Smash every one of those Sauron dogs' heads to pieces!"
The artillerymen answered with excited cheers, loading and firing with even greater vigor.
