Background / History

Wang Chuan was born during a severe thunderstorm to Wang Shanhe and Xiao Qingyun, a poor farming couple. By age six, he was thin and frail and endured humiliation from village children because his parents possessed no Soul Power. Rather than resent his family, he wanted to become strong enough to protect them and make them proud. 1 2

At his Martial Soul Awakening, Wang Chuan manifested Nothingness, a slender purple-and-white long blade that induced despair and alarmed Bai Qingyun. He was revealed to possess Innate Full Soul Power; a second Martial Soul also stirred in his left hand, but he instinctively concealed it. 2

The Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect recruited him after recognizing the danger and potential of Nothingness. Ning Fengzhi supported Wang Chuan’s parents financially, while Chen Xin became his teacher and guide. When Wang Chuan first drew Nothingness at the sect, its Void power froze and eroded the hall, transporting his consciousness to another realm where he met Huang Quan. 4

Under Chen Xin’s tutelage, Wang Chuan studied Soul Beast theory, selected a water-attributed first ring to moderate Nothingness’s destructive nature, and developed his own blade style. Huang Quan later gave him a Meditation Method and knowledge of Void control, but repeatedly warned that immersion in Void would cause him to lose himself. 6 12 36

His path broadened after Ambrosial Arbor awakened as his Second Spirit. Its life force protected him during dangerous ring absorptions, and Yaoshi’s Blessing later remade him into an Emissary of Abundance, creating an unstable but powerful balance between Void and life. 7 95

Wang Chuan was initially described as a thin, pale, frail six-year-old boy with visible veins in his small hands. As his cultivation advanced, his appearance acquired increasingly supernatural traits associated with Void and Abundance. 1 2 95

Wang Chuan is diligent, calm, and unusually mature for his age. He listens carefully, studies Soul Beast compatibility in detail, and approaches cultivation with a disciplined desire to protect his parents and those close to him. 6 12

He is compassionate toward people in danger and often acts despite personal risk, as shown when he saved Yu Xiaogang and Tang San from the Mandala Snake. In battle, however, he is precise, restrained, and capable of ruthless decisiveness against genuine threats. 8 9 38

Nothingness’s corrosion increasingly affects his memory, emotions, and sense of self. At various points he becomes cold, unfamiliar even to old companions, or nearly loses his humanity to a Void incarnation.
