Background and History

Karura and Rasa arrive as reinforcements during Orochimaru's attack on a Sunagakure camp in the Land of Rain. Her sand joins Rasa's gold dust in an assault on Orochimaru and Manda, helping make continued fighting untenable for the attackers 58. The two are lovers whose complementary ninjutsu and close coordination make them especially effective together 59.

As Shimizu becomes a contender for the Fourth Kazekage position, Karura recognizes that his rapid growth threatens Rasa's prospects. Watching Shimizu fight the Third Kazekage changes her earlier conviction that Rasa would succeed him 234. Rasa and Karura later lead a team assigned to capture the capital's gates during Sunagakure's operation against the Daimyo Guardian Corps 343.

Karura is injured while escorting the hidden daimyo heir to the capital. She identifies Minato Namikaze and the Ino-Shika-Cho formation as the attackers who abducted him; Rasa promises to avenge her 358. During the subsequent war, she helps Shimizu restrain two tailed beasts captured from Iwagakure 438 439. As Sunagakure prepares its next generation of leaders, Karura serves as Chiyo's assistant and is assigned responsibility for diplomacy and logistics 375 454.

Appearance

Karura has light-golden hair that reaches her shoulders. At her first appearance, she looks about seventeen or eighteen 58.

Personality

Karura is skilled at easing the atmosphere in conversation, as she does when she and Rasa meet Shimizu over a meal 59. She is attentive to Rasa's prospects and well-being: Shimizu's rise makes her question his chances of becoming Kazekage, and the lasting damage to his hands troubles her even after he survives 234 437.

Magnet Release

Karura combines Wind and Earth Release to control ordinary sand, a form of Magnet Release developed through Sunagakure's talent-selection and training system 235 236.

• Sand Burial: Gathers sand and earth into a waterfall-like attack; used against Manda alongside Rasa's gold-dust assault 58.
• Defense: Raises walls of sand to shield onlookers from the aftermath of Shimizu's technique 234.
