"It seems this grand show should begin now," I said.
I had Chen Kehan and the others guard the Dragon Phoenix Street stele, waiting for the famous performer to return.
Before long, the famous performer was brought back by the soldiers, but he was covered in wounds. The sight was horrifying.
I smiled faintly and said, "I see. I understand now."
"You mean that the commander is the Fierce Ghost of the entire Dragon Phoenix Street?" Teacher Ma asked.
"No." I shook my head and said seriously, "That Fierce Ghost should be the famous performer."
"He is indeed miserable, but I think that's all there is to it." Chen Kehan spoke disdainfully. "On Dragon Phoenix Street, countless people have sold their sons and daughters or been trampled beneath others' feet."
"Even a rickshaw puller has hardships beyond imagination. Compared to them, the famous performer was well-known and made plenty of money every day. How deep could his resentment be?"
"To everyone else, he was an unattainable famous performer. In the commander's eyes, he was merely a plaything," I said.
"What should we do next?" Chen Kehan asked.
"Continue watching him. Don't let your guard down for even a moment. He is the key to solving this mystery," I said seriously.
"Understood." Chen Kehan nodded.
Thus, the next day, the commander sent a carriage again to have the famous performer sing for him. Although the famous performer was unwilling in every possible way, there was nothing he could do.
The owner of the famous performer's troupe refused. But the wolf-like, tiger-like soldiers wouldn't listen to him and executed him on the spot.
Seeing this, the famous performer helplessly submitted, and he was taken onto the carriage again. When he returned, he was covered in wounds just as before.
