Background
Liu Ling'er is a nineteen-year-old woman from Shuchuan introduced to Liang Fan by Li Tongtian. Three months before arriving at Liang Fan's villa, she acquired a small bell with unusual power. When the bell fused into her body, it became impossible to surrender; human pursuers and ghosts subsequently hunted her for it. The bell occasionally saved her life, but she could not consciously activate it 604.
Her father raised her alone after her mother left the family. He later died from overwork while Liu Ling'er was in college, leaving her especially vulnerable to emotional manipulation involving his voice or memory 1030.
Li Tongtian brought her to Liang Fan because he believed no one else could protect her or safeguard the bell's secret. Liang Fan reluctantly accepted the arrangement after being offered a housekeeper, placing Liu Ling'er in an unequal and often exploitative domestic role despite clearing away many of the people pursuing her 605 607.
Liu Ling'er repeatedly tries to gain control over the bell and become strong enough to protect herself. Liang Fan initially deceives her by passing household labor off as cultivation, but his dangerous tests establish that the bell could make her untouchable if fully mastered 608 609.
Appearance
Liu Ling'er is introduced as a young woman of nineteen. After consuming the Thousand-Year Vermilion Fruit, the impurities in her body are expelled; her skin becomes fairer and is later described as jade-like from Spiritual Energy's effects 604 1343 1352.
- Carries the Epoch Bell within her body 604 1496.
- Commonly uses the Chaos-Taming Rope and Demon Slaying Sword in battle 680 690.
- Becomes Tian Zha's maternal figure after the Spirit Pearl Child hatches 741 742.
Personality
Liu Ling'er is outspoken, stubborn, and unafraid to criticize Liang Fan's selfishness. Even while dependent on his protection, she protests being treated as free labor, attempts to leave his villa, and openly calls him a scoundrel 607 609.
Her curiosity often outweighs her caution. She eagerly wants powerful Magic Treasures such as the Wind Fire Wheels and Chaos-Taming Rope, though her lack of Spiritual Energy initially prevents her from using them properly 677 680 681. She can also be impulsive and ruthless when provoked, as shown when she kills a scammer after repeatedly striking him with her bus 872.
Despite her fear of supernatural threats, Liu Ling'er is compassionate toward suffering and fiercely protective of those she accepts as family. She sympathizes with the red-clothed Fierce Ghost's tragic past, advocates freeing exploited girls, and immediately embraces her role as Tian Zha's mother 635 742 1022.

Story Role / Major Arcs
Pursuit over the Little Bell
Liu Ling'er enters the story while fleeing people and ghosts seeking the bell inside her. Li Tongtian entrusts her protection to Liang Fan, who neutralizes her immediate pursuers but exploits her need for safety by making her work in his home 604 605 607.
Third Prince's Tomb
While exploring the Third Prince's tomb, Liu Ling'er covets its Magic Treasures. She receives the Demon Slaying Sword, becomes the Chaos-Taming Rope's chosen master, and learns firsthand that powerful artifacts demand trials their wielder must survive 679 680 681.
Tian Zha's Birth
When overwhelmed by Flying Head Sorceries, Liu Ling'er activates the Spirit Pearl Child. The bead hatches into Tian Zha, a new being connected to Nezha's reincarnation who immediately recognizes Liu Ling'er as her mother. Disappearance and the Replica
After Liu Ling'er disappears during the chaotic era, Liang Fan encounters a Sacred Palace disciple bearing her appearance. This woman appears emotionally cold, practices the Ice Snow Divine Skill, and is considered a potential Saintess 1479 1480. The Palace Lord later reveals that this Sacred Palace Liu Ling'er is a replica made from the real Liu Ling'er's blood. The original was taken away by a mysterious group seeking the Epoch Bell and left the replica behind to console Liang Fan 1495 1496.
