A Land of Great Calamity

"What were you doing at the Abandoned School for no reason?" Li Tongtian asked.

"I can't say." Wang Qunze looked hesitant.

"Is that so? Very well." I waved my hand, and two burly men beat him savagely, kicking and punching him until Wang Qunze screamed nonstop. Yet he stubbornly refused to say anything, no matter what.

Li Tongtian and I exchanged glances, both of us showing a hint of delight.

Wang Qunze was such a coward, yet he refused to reveal this secret. It had to be something huge.

"Looks like you really want to die." I looked at him.

"So what? I'm not afraid! If you've got the guts, beat me to death!" Wang Qunze glared at me furiously. By now, he had toughened up.

"Since that's what you're asking for, I can hardly refuse. Then I'll have you killed." I waved my hand, my face utterly indifferent. "Beat him to death and drag his corpse outside to feed the dogs!"

Several burly men immediately approached with machetes, their faces twisted into sinister grins.

Wang Qunze trembled all over but did not say a word. However, as the machetes drew closer and closer to his neck, he finally could not hold out any longer. "I'll talk! Stop beating me. You're about to beat me to death!"

"Hmph, why put yourself through this? If you'd spoken sooner, you wouldn't have had to suffer." I looked at him with disdain, my gaze icy.

"I'll tell you, but after I'm done, you can't refuse to believe me." Wang Qunze looked at me, his eyes full of dejection.

"Go ahead." I sat on the sofa and looked at him.

Li Tongtian waved his hand, and everyone around us left. Only the two of us remained. Wang Qunze looked at us, then finally revealed a secret he had kept hidden in his heart.

It had happened three months earlier. At the time, he had gotten a girlfriend, and the two of them had been passionately in love. There was naturally no need to elaborate on that.

Since they were young people, they liked excitement. So they went to the Abandoned School to have some fun.

When they arrived, the main gate was tightly shut, but Wang Qunze and the others still found a way inside.

They wandered around, enjoying the thrill of exploration. Later, by a twist of fate, they reached the basement, where they saw a coffin.

Wang Qunze was somewhat frightened, but his girlfriend was curious and asked him to open the coffin.

Wang Qunze did everything he could and finally opened the coffin lid. What he saw next left him utterly stunned. Inside lay a young woman, a beautiful schoolgirl in a uniform. Her body was spotless from head to toe, and she looked nothing like a corpse.

Black cords were wrapped around her body, and talismans covered her from head to toe. She wore bracelets on both hands, and a luminous pearl rested in her mouth.

Wang Qunze was terrified by this sight. His girlfriend, however, stared excitedly at the jewelry and could not resist reaching for it.

Wang Qunze's girlfriend stretched out her hand to take the luminous pearl. But the moment she touched it, she suddenly went berserk. Blood poured from her eyes, ears, nose, and mouth, and she died violently right before him.

At this point, Wang Qunze's face was filled with terror, and sweat streamed down it.

Hearing this, I looked at him and asked, "So after your girlfriend died, you were the one who took the luminous pearl out?"

"That's not how it happened." Wang Qunze looked at me, terror filling his eyes. "What happened next truly went beyond everyone's expectations. I don't know how to explain it."

"Tell us. This concerns the lives and deaths of many people," Li Tongtian said.

"After seeing my girlfriend die, I immediately called my buddies and asked them to come over. They arrived soon afterward. They were shocked when they saw my girlfriend dead. But after seeing the Female Corpse in the coffin, they somehow lost their minds too."

"They thought everything on the Female Corpse was treasure. They believed they'd become rich if they took it outside."

"So I warned them that touching those things would get them killed. But they didn't believe me."

"Then another person touched the treasure and died almost instantly. Several people died one after another. I nearly went insane. And the last person seemed to have lost his mind completely. He actually tried to rush over and get himself killed too."

Horror Classroom, Section 13

"I don't know what kind of magic power the Female Corpse possessed. One after another, they rushed over to die. Four people died right in front of me."

"After that, I was completely desperate and ran away like a madman. I don't know what happened afterward either."

Wang Qunze's face was filled with terror as he spoke.

"How is that possible?" I was also stunned and could not react for a long while.

"This is extremely strange." Li Tongtian looked at me skeptically. "Forget the fact that so many people died. If the Female Corpse possessed the power to bewitch people, why did everyone else die while Wang Qunze alone survived?"

"Isn't that far too strange? Perhaps something went wrong somewhere."

"I don't know anything about that either." Wang Qunze looked at me anxiously and explained unwillingly, "I don't know why I survived, but this really had nothing to do with me. I wasn't the one who released the Female Corpse."

"If it wasn't you, then who was it?" I watched him sharply, trying to find some clue on him. But after thinking for a long time, I still could not figure out who had done it.

Li Tongtian, however, thought Wang Qunze was highly suspicious. Perhaps he had deliberately released the Female Corpse.

I thought that was possible too, so I had someone beat him again. Although Wang Qunze wailed and begged for mercy, he still refused to admit it. This left me feeling helpless.

I decided to take him to find Master Du Mo. Perhaps Master Du Mo could tell us the truth.

When we brought him to the Abandoned School, Master Du Mo was wandering around the school with his tin staff in hand.

When he saw us escorting Wang Qunze over, he merely glanced at him indifferently before looking away. "This has nothing to do with him. He's just an ordinary person. There's no way he could have released her."

"But this clearly has something to do with him," I asked in surprise.

"Let him go, and I'll explain it to you," Master Du Mo said.

Chapter 14: A Land of Great Calamity

Although we were reluctant, we let the battered and swollen Wang Qunze go. He had no time to think and immediately turned around and ran. I waved my hand, and the people behind me dispersed as well.

The entire Abandoned School was left with only the three of us. Master Du Mo looked deeply at us before finally saying, "I can't see anything strange about Wang Qunze. He's just an ordinary person."
