Mo Li had temporarily lost control of his body and could only let the monster grab him by the head and lift him up. Rain washed the mud from his face, and Mo Li could finally see once again. The hairy monster gripped Mo Li's head with its right hand and held him up before its face. At such close range, Mo Li could see that ferocious, white-haired face even more clearly. The rancid stench emanating from the monster was even more pungent.
Yet it was precisely thanks to that foul smell that Mo Li's mind cleared somewhat. Staring at the monster before him, Mo Li began to wonder, What exactly is this thing? He had lived in the Snowy Region for nearly ten years and had seen plenty of strange animals, but this was the first time he had encountered something like this. Was it some kind of bear? Or perhaps some kind of ape? But no such creature had ever appeared in the Snowy Region. Rather than an animal, it looked more like a human.
It walked upright on two feet, and its forelimbs could grasp and use objects like a human's. Most importantly, when Mo Li met its gaze, he could see the light of intelligence in those blood-red eyes. It was a look entirely different from that of a wild beast.
After a brief moment of thought, a word suddenly flashed through Mo Li's mind: Yeti. Legends of Yetis had long circulated throughout Nepal and the Snowy Region. Biologists and scholars from all over the world had even come specifically to investigate and verify their existence. Though they had never found concrete proof, they had discovered Yeti footprints and some hair.
Legends of Yetis had existed in the Snowy Region and Nepal since ancient times. Locals called these legendary creatures Yetis. Since 1951, when the famous United Kingdom mountaineer Eric Shipton and his companions saw a string of enormous footprints in the snow of the Himalayas, the entire world had been divided over whether Yetis truly existed. Countless explorers and biologists had come to the Himalayas seeking traces of Yetis, but the clues were few and far between.
Gradually, Yetis became a legend, an existence that could not be definitively proven. Even now, people from all over the world came from time to time in search of Yeti tracks.
Had he truly encountered a legendary Yeti? If so, was Mo Li lucky or unlucky? Rumors said that Yetis had an unstable attitude toward humans. Sometimes they helped people, while other times they attacked them—and attacks were far more common than acts of help. Besides, judging from the current situation, this Yeti clearly had no intention of helping him.
Just as Mo Li was thinking about what this thing was, the monster raised its other hand and grabbed Mo Li's shoulder. The next moment, its arms began to exert force, clearly intending to rip Mo Li's head right off his neck.
The monster's strength was utterly terrifying. Mo Li felt a tremendous tearing force on his neck, while his neck vertebrae and the flesh around his throat were wracked with unbearable, ripping pain.
Was he going to die here like this? No. Mo Li did not want to die like this. His powerful desire to survive created a miracle once again, and through sheer willpower, he managed to make his right hand move. Raising his right hand, Mo Li grabbed the monster's right wrist and pulled downward with all his strength, trying to lessen the tearing force from its arms. But even at his peak, he could never have matched this monster in strength. Injured as he was now, he stood even less chance of contending with it.
After trying several times and finding it useless, Mo Li released the monster's wrist and began feeling around his body wildly. When his hand touched his belt, a trace of delight appeared on his face, because he had found his sidearm.
After being caught in a sneak attack and injured by this thing, Mo Li had even forgotten that he had brought a gun. There was no longer time for further thought. Almost the instant he touched the sidearm, Mo Li Pulled Out the gun, raised it, aimed it at the monster's head, and pulled the trigger.
Bang! Accompanied by a crisp gunshot, the bullet shot from the barrel under the tremendous force of the gunpowder. But Mo Li was far too weak. Though his right hand could move, it lacked strength, and the Rebound Force made his hand jerk violently the instant the pistol fired. The bullet did not strike the monster's head, instead grazing past it.
By sheer coincidence, the bullet hit the monster's ear. No matter how huge it was, its body was still made of flesh and blood. The rapidly spinning bullet tore through the monster's left ear, and Fresh Blood sprayed out.
The Sharp Pain made the monster let out a miserable scream, and its hands finally Released Mo Li. Mo Li Fell to the Ground heavily.
The monster covered its ear with its left hand, then turned and glared at Mo Li Once Again with blood-red eyes. From its gaze, Mo Li could tell that This Guy had been completely enraged.
Mo Li had no doubt that the monster would tear him apart with savage brutality the very next second. Using the last of his strength, Mo Li raised the gun in his hand and Aimed At the monster. He no longer had the strength to pull the trigger; merely raising his arm was already his limit. He was gambling that the monster possessed considerable intelligence, just as he thought it did. Only intelligent creatures could feel fear and remember painful lessons.
Seeing Mo Li aim the gun at it Once Again, the monster's expression froze. Then its ferocious look gradually faded, and Mo Li could see a trace of fear in its eyes. Clearly, after being wounded by Mo Li's gun, it had realized how terrifying the weapon was.
One man and one monster stared at each other. Waves of dizziness kept washing over Mo Li, but he did not dare pass out. Once he lost consciousness, the gun aimed at the monster would fall, and then only death would await him. So Mo Li bit down on the tip of his tongue, using the pain to keep himself awake.
Finally, after staring at Mo Li for roughly a minute, the monster retreated. It knew that the thing in Mo Li's hand could kill it. After letting out a low growl at Mo Li, it covered its injured ear, turned around, and ran into the depths of the forest, soon vanishing completely.
Mo Li did not dare lower the gun immediately, because he was unsure whether the intelligent monster would come back for a sneak attack. If he lowered his arm, he would not have the strength to raise it again.
Mo Li held on for another thirty seconds or so before exhaustion finally forced his arm down. When his arm struck the ground, however, the index finger hooked around the trigger reflexively pulled it Once Again. Another bullet fired, Accompanied by a crisp gunshot that echoed through the forest.
Mo Li had reached his limit and could not hold on any longer. His consciousness grew increasingly hazy, and he knew he was about to pass out again. Before he did, he vaguely seemed to hear distant voices drifting over: "The gunshot came from this direction. Captain Mo should be somewhere nearby... Found him! He's here!..."
