Giant Frog's Assault (4)

Mo Li was far too close to the Giant Frog. If he ran in a straight line, the frog would catch up in just a step or two, and he'd be utterly doomed. So, Mo Li absolutely couldn't run straight.

After dodging the frog's stomping foot, Mo Li began to move rapidly sideways, using the giant bacterium in front of him as an obstacle to block the frog's pursuit.

This tactic actually worked well. With the giant bacterium blocking its path, the Giant Frog couldn't attack Mo Li at all. It could only clumsily chase Mo Li, circling around the bacterium.

If the Giant Frog wasn't slow in a straight line, then circling the bacterium was a different story. After all, the creature was too massive, and turning took time. So, after several laps, the Giant Frog still hadn't caught Mo Li.

Perhaps thinking it couldn't catch Mo Li, the Giant Frog actually stopped. Seeing the frog stop chasing him, Mo Li also stopped. Although he hadn't run many laps around the giant bacterium, Mo Li was breathing heavily. The pressure he was under was immense.

Seeing that the Giant Frog wasn't chasing Mo Li anymore, Zhong Lichun, who was hiding on top of the bacterium, quickly shouted to Mo Li, "Hey! Come up here quickly!"

Hearing Zhong Lichun calling him from above, Mo Li's expression instantly changed. What was this woman thinking? That Giant Frog was right below them. He had ignored Zhong Lichun before because he had attracted the frog's attention. Now that the frog couldn't catch him, wouldn't Zhong Lichun's shout completely draw the frog's attention?

As expected, almost at the same moment Zhong Lichun called out to Mo Li, the Giant Frog, which had been standing still, suddenly looked up towards the top of the bacterium. However, it was crouched on the ground, not as tall as the bacterium, so it couldn't see Zhong Lichun on top at all.

"Damn it! This stupid woman!" Hearing Zhong Lichun shout loudly again, Mo Li was utterly speechless. He raised his hand to cover his face and muttered under his breath. And almost as Mo Li was feeling helpless about Zhong Lichun's somewhat foolish actions, the Giant Frog on the other side suddenly did something astonishing: it propped itself up on its hind legs and stood upright.

Given the frog's length, it stood at least six to seven meters tall. This height was enough for it to see Zhong Lichun hiding on top of the bacterium. As soon as it saw Zhong Lichun, the Giant Frog became excited and directly leaned onto the giant bacterium. The surface of the bacterium was extremely soft, and after the frog leaned on it, the surface sagged significantly. However, thanks to the bacterium's softness, the frog couldn't exert much force. Trying to climb onto the bacterium to grab Zhong Lichun was impossible.

Feeling the bacterium beneath her feet tremble violently, Zhong Lichun lost her balance and fell onto it. She instinctively turned her head and saw that the Giant Frog's enormous face was less than half a meter away from her. The visual impact was overwhelming. At that moment, Zhong Lichun realized her impulsiveness. What was she thinking? How could she be so thoughtless as to shout so loudly?

Seeing its prey again, the Giant Frog excitedly opened its mouth and its front legs continuously strained, trying to climb onto the bacterium. Fortunately, the surface of the bacterium kept wriggling, preventing it from climbing up. However, this also caused the entire surface of the bacterium to fluctuate, making it impossible for Zhong Lichun to stand up.

What terrified Zhong Lichun the most was that as the surface of the bacterium fluctuated, she was slowly moving closer to the Giant Frog. To prevent herself from moving further towards the frog, Zhong Lichun grabbed the fuzzy hairs on the bacterium's surface with her left hand, temporarily stopping her movement.

After several attempts and realizing it couldn't climb the bacterium, the Giant Frog suddenly opened its mouth, spat out its still-bleeding tongue, and wrapped it around Zhong Lichun's waist. It then began to pull her back.

The strength of this tongue was immense. Zhong Lichun's body was directly pulled into the air, and the not-so-sturdy hairs on the bacterium were ripped off by Zhong Lichun. Just like that, Zhong Lichun was once again wrapped by the tongue and pulled towards the Giant Frog's mouth.

In a moment of desperation, Zhong Lichun thrust her right-hand dagger into the bacterium. Her intention was simple: to use the dagger embedded in the bacterium as an anchor point to resist the pull. However, after the dagger pierced the bacterium, there was no resistance. The outer layer of the bacterium was very thin and extremely soft, making it impossible for the dagger to hold firm.

Under the tug of the tongue, Zhong Lichun's body continued to be pulled towards the Giant Frog. The dagger in her hand carved a long gash across the surface of the bacterium. At this moment, Zhong Lichun's face was filled with despair. Mo Li wouldn't be able to save her this time. Was she really going to die here?

However, just as a large gash was made in the bacterium, a gas with a strong, pungent odor suddenly sprayed out from within. The pressure inside the bacterium must have been immense, as it directly blew Zhong Lichun flying. The spraying gas also directly hit the Giant Frog's head.

The Giant Frog was blasted backward by the high-pressure gas, and the tongue holding Zhong Lichun loosened. Propelled by the gas, Zhong Lichun was actually blown four to five meters away before falling to the ground.

Meanwhile, seeing this situation, Mo Li suddenly seemed to realize something. He quickly reached into the only pocket on his large shorts. When his hand came out, he was holding something. This something was the kerosene lighter he had used to start a fire before.

Quickly flicking open the lighter's cover, Mo Li spun the wheel to ignite it. Then, he forcefully threw the lighter towards the Giant Frog's head. The lighter traced an arc through the air before plunging into the gas spewing from the bacterium.

Almost the instant the lighter touched the gas, the gas spraying from the bacterium ignited. A pale blue flame spread rapidly like a fire dragon, eventually engulfing the Giant Frog's head.

Mo Li didn't know how hot the flame was, but as the flame consumed the Giant Frog's head, the frog didn't even have time to struggle. It simply collapsed onto the shrinking bacterium. Due to the pressure from the frog's corpse, more gas was expelled from the bacterium, and the flame grew larger.

Mo Li didn't dare to linger near the bacterium. He rushed to Zhong Lichun, scooped her up, and then bolted towards the Underground Lake. Behind him, the raging fire covered several other nearby bacteria. Under the high temperature, the outer skin of the bacteria was rapidly incinerated, and then the internal gas sprayed out. The newly expelled gas encountered the open flame and ignited again, causing the expanding fire to ignite other nearby bacteria. It had turned into a vicious cycle.
