Background
Galvis travels in search of heroic legends for an assignment from his teacher, Master Wisna. He explains that completing and refining a personal story or poem is part of a Bard's lifelong path to advancement. He selects Roland as the protagonist of his work after witnessing his discipline, talent, and heroism. 109 148 371
He meets Roland aboard a ship under attack by Sandfin Merfolk and sharks. Playing his harp at the bow, Galvis calms the attacking sea creatures long enough to disrupt their assault. Afterward, he theatrically introduces himself and declares Roland the hero he has been searching for. 109
During the group's time in the River Nations, Galvis supplies intelligence on noble politics, bloodline legends, and pirates. He joins Roland, Avril, and Theresa in their battles against Dire Goblins, where his music provides critical battlefield control and support. His retellings of their exploits spread Roland's reputation through the River Nations. 116 143 148 155 162 169
Galvis later reveals that Lady Sune bestowed the Crimson String of Fate upon him. Through its connection to Roland, he can sense Roland's location, distance, and life status. He uses it to determine that Roland survived the danger at Howling Gorge and reached the Misty Land. 231 232
After the war in the Golden Valley Kingdom, Galvis leaves for the Everlasting Song Forest to report his work to Master Wisna and seek answers about the ancient hero Rudolf. 371 372
In the Everlasting Song Forest, Galvis and Avril are imprisoned amid Tula Morning Star's rise to power. Galvis recognizes that Tula is pursuing divine favor and deduces that Galvis himself is targeted because of Sune's gift. Tula uses Master Wisna as leverage in an attempt to force Galvis to surrender that favor. 396 406 408
The ordeal leaves Galvis physically aged and near death after his lifespan is forcibly depleted. He entrusts Roland with his notebook of adventures and reveals Tula's plan to steal divine favor. 411 413 By Chapter 421, he is alive and has isolated himself to finish his literary work. 421
Appearance
Galvis is a slender, handsome young Half-Elf with brown hair, light-colored eyes, and ears that are pointed but rounded at the tips—less pronounced than those of a full Elf. 109 110
- Slender, almost fragile-looking arms. 115
- Usually carries and plays a string instrument, most often described as a harp. 109
- Keeps a notebook and quill close at hand to record adventures and inspiration. 148 371
- Avril once cut away a large section of his hair, leaving an obvious bald patch that Galvis unsuccessfully claimed was a noble fashion trend. 116
Personality
Galvis is flamboyant, talkative, and dramatically expressive. He habitually turns ordinary events into performances, punctuating conversations with music, exaggerated praise, and poetic phrasing. His fascination with heroic narratives makes him quick to see Roland's actions as material for an epic. 109 126 147
Behind this theatrical manner, Galvis is observant and perceptive. He notices political inconsistencies, investigates suspicious figures, and correctly senses that Tula Morning Star's flawless public persona conceals a dangerous ambition. 115 295 396 408
He is visibly intimidated by Avril and often avoids physical training or direct danger when possible. Nevertheless, he repeatedly supports his companions during crises, uses his music to protect others, and remains concerned for Avril even while fearing her. 115 155 186 371
