Background & History

Transmigration and Blackwater Territory

Roland arrived in another world after blacking out during an overtime session in his previous life. He retained a game-derived “Profession Panel” that records attributes, skills, traits, and possible job changes; unlike ordinary people, he believes it may allow him to take countless professions. 1

He began as a thin, undernourished youth working around Hawk’s blacksmith shop in Blackwater Territory. His early proficiency with bellows operation and ore smelting earned Hawk’s approval, and he chose Apprentice Blacksmith as his first profession after maxing both skills. 1 2

Under Hawk’s mentorship, Roland rapidly learned forging, became the blacksmith’s assistant, and pursued formal advancement through the manor’s assessment. He forged weapons in secret, gave Sean an iron sword and improvised Heart Protection Mirror, and completed the Blacksmith profession’s requirements through relentless practice and body tempering. 3 6 7 23 24

Marco’s jealousy made Roland a target. After Roland and Sean killed the assassin Sam, Roland searched the body for evidence rather than pursuing revenge blindly; he instead urged Sean to build a future strong enough to deter Marco’s family. 12

Becoming a Combatant

Recognizing that craftsmanship alone would not keep him alive in a world of monsters and Transcendent Professionals, Roland sought combat training from Peyton, Captain John, Darko’s veterans, and later Reggie. He accumulated sword, dagger, spear, archery, riding, shield, and polearm skills alongside his forging work. 8 18 31 43 132

His early expeditions with Darko exposed him to organized goblins, kobolds, magic, and the recovering Magic Elements of the world. Roland protected Darko during their escape from monster-infested woods, then became a Hunter after developing archery and survival skills. 33 34 35

When Blackwater Manor was attacked by manipulated rioters and monsters, Roland organized apprentices, fought beside the guards, and killed a giant monster with Momentum Slash. The surviving guards began addressing him as “Lord Roland” after his actions turned the battle. 57 59

River Nations and the Knight Path

Roland left the Golden Valley Kingdom for the River Nations, seeking the Knight Breathing Technique and broader paths to strength. He joined the Knight Academy through Graham’s recognition of his ability and accepted the dangerous Wolf King commission in exchange for access to the Breathing Technique. 113 114

He eventually mastered the Nameless Knight Breathing Technique, using it to refine his body, wield Battle Qi, and meet the foundations for knightly advancement. His growth brought him into a regular team with Theresa, Avril, and Galvis, later joined by Hobby and Freddy in different expeditions. 125 147 153 206

While based in the River Nations, Roland registered with the Blacksmith Guild under Hawk’s recommendation, maxed Basic Forging Technique, and became an Enchanter. He began creating elemental weapons and investigating better materials such as Mithril. 128 129 162 169 171

Transcendence, War, and Later Journeys

Roland’s later conflicts expanded from monster hunting to ancient ruins, political conspiracies, Abyssal threats, extraplanar beings, and the revival of Magic City Giles. He defeated the Paladin Van Buren within a Will Domain, then advanced to the Extraordinary profession of Knight after receiving the Veil of Shadows. 251 252 259

His Dragon Bloodline awakened after contact with a Dragon Soul brand. He later developed partial Dragon Transformation through a secret art supplied by Graham, manifesting scales and claws while struggling to keep the bloodline under control. 298 348

After reaching the peak of his Breathing Technique, Roland condensed a Primal Core. This transformed his body into a self-sustaining circulation of primal energy and allowed his Battle Qi to leave his body and support brief flight. 400 401

Roland’s identity has become increasingly uncertain. Ancient records connect the name Rudolf to a hero who repelled demons during the Crystal Era, while Durga remembers Roland—or someone identical to him—as a solitary mercenary captain named Rudolf. 105 371 387

Appearance

Roland first appeared as a thin, black-haired sixteen-year-old with a gaunt physique, worn hemp clothing, bright eyes, and a delicate face. 1 5 Repeated profession changes, body tempering, and knightly cultivation transformed him into a tall, broad-shouldered young man with defined musculature and a refined, handsome appearance that nobles often mistake for high birth. 24 73 75

  • Black short hair. 1 5
  • Clear, bright eyes and a refined facial appearance. 5 39
  • Initially scrawny and undernourished; later notably sturdy and broad-shouldered. 1 24 73
  • Developed golden vertical pupils after awakening his Dragon Bloodline. 298
  • Can manifest scales and sharp nails during partial Dragon Transformation. 348

Personality

Roland is disciplined, pragmatic, and intensely focused on self-improvement. He treats every job, skill, trait, and commission as part of a larger plan to survive in an increasingly dangerous world. Even when he gains power quickly, he continues studying, training, forging, and seeking weaknesses in his own abilities. 17 41 125 163

He is cautious around unknown people and powers, preferring observation and preparation over recklessness. This caution guides his decisions to avoid dangerous routes, investigate commissions before accepting them, and keep the Profession Panel secret. 41 114 147

Despite his strategic nature, Roland is deeply loyal. He protects Blackwater Manor, risks himself for companions such as Theresa and Black Wind, supports Sean’s development, and repeatedly provides weapons, armor, training, or resources to friends without demanding repayment. 57 94 100 166 375

His humility remains a defining trait. Roland dislikes exaggerated praise, is embarrassed by Galvis’s heroic stories, and does not seek fame for its own sake. 110 153 343 421

Abilities & Skills

Profession Panel and Class Resonance

Roland’s defining advantage is a private system that tracks his attributes and skills, awards experience, and permits job changes after he fulfills specific conditions.

  • Can accumulate multiple professions rather than being limited to one life profession and one combat profession. 1 9
  • Gains attribute increases and traits from each profession change. 2 9 24
  • Generates Class Resonances between professions, producing additional buffs beyond the original jobs. 9 17
  • Notable resonances include Tempered Steel, Theory and Practice, Standardized Production, Will of Steel, Twin Arts, Echoing Forge, and Shadow Iron Cavalry. 17 55 71 172 423
  • The system’s advancement requirements can be extremely demanding, especially for Knight, Enchanter, and Novice Knight paths. 56 125 212

Forging and Enchantment

Roland is a master blacksmith whose skill originated under Hawk and later earned him acceptance into the Blacksmith Guild without an assessment. 24 128

  • Maxed Basic Forging Technique through guild commissions and sustained practice. 162 163
  • Uses Heart of the Furnace to sense heat and improve his control of forge flames. 24 27
  • Uses Material Empathy to instinctively perceive a material’s magical affinity, defects, and structural weaknesses. 170
  • Uses Elemental Imprint to engrave elemental power and spell patterns into weapons and equipment. 169 170
  • Successfully created Earth- and Fire-enchanted iron weapons capable of cutting iron stakes, though early versions shattered because ordinary iron could not endure prolonged elemental surges. 171 172
  • Learned to forge and imprint Mithril scraps into enchanted daggers and throwing blades; impurities leave those weapons fragile despite their sharpness. 278 279

Martial Arts and Knightly Cultivation

Roland is proficient with short weapons, swords, daggers, spears, polearms, shields, bows, mounted combat, and improvised weapons.

  • Momentum Slash — A high-output Combat Skill capable of cleaving durable monsters and killing a giant foe. It originally required Focus and left Roland briefly weakened after each use. 41 59
  • Arc Moon Pull — Deflects or redirects force through weapon control and body mechanics; helped Roland impress Graham and gain academy admission. 81 113
  • Battle Frenzy — Raises Roland’s combat power as battle intensifies, but can erode his reason if he allows his Spirit to drop too far. 55 252
  • Short Handle Mastery — Grants intuitive command of daggers, short swords, and axes after merging multiple short-handled combat skills. 55
  • Martial Step and Knight Never Fights Unarmed — Allow Roland to understand a weapon’s balance and nature immediately, then translate that understanding into movement, efficient force transfer, and seamless transitions between weapons. 159
  • Nameless Knight Breathing Technique — Refines Roland’s body through Life Rhythm and Battle Qi. At advanced stages it contributed to his Primal Core and autonomous energy circulation. 125 400 401

Magic, Psionics, and Faith

Roland developed magical ability through Bronson’s research, the white skeleton’s spell patterns, and his later Enchanter profession.

  • Learned the Flame Arrow Cantrip by absorbing Magic Elements through the patterned skeleton. 67
  • Dazzling Charm adds mental shock effects such as Charm or Stun when others witness his Cantrip casting; effectiveness depends on relative mental strength. 71
  • Mind Sculpting uses Psionic Power to temporarily reinforce attributes such as Strength, Agility, Spirit, Perception, and Willpower. 220
  • Soul Steal can seize intrinsic traits from others, but requires sufficient psionic superiority and exposes Roland to the target’s strongest emotional residues. 386
  • Fate Deviation allows him to glimpse and manipulate probability threads, though its broader costs and limits remain uncertain. 386
  • Roland chose Self as the anchor of his faith, interpreting faith as conviction in his own path rather than devotion to a deity. 306 307

Dragon Bloodline and Defensive Traits

Roland possesses an awakened Dragon Bloodline and several traits centered on defense, perception, and survival.

  • Dragon Might — A subtle oppressive force that can extinguish flames and paralyze weaker creatures; Roland considers its uses limited but tactically valuable. 298
  • Dragon Transformation — A secret art that partially transforms Roland, producing scales and claws while dramatically increasing strength. Its principal limit is the difficulty of controlling the awakened bloodline. 348 349
  • Veil of Shadows — Conceals Roland’s energy, life force, soul aura, and other signs of inner existence; it does not make him physically invisible. 259
  • Lone Fortress — Weakens hostile intent, reduces damage when surrounded, and reinforces Roland’s blocking, parrying, physical resilience, and spiritual defense. 259 260
  • Oath of Protection — Allows Roland to shield allies from fatal attacks, reflecting the protective will that reshaped Lone Fortress. 260 261
  • Shadow Dance Stance, Battle Dance Shadow, and Illusory Dance Steps — Rogue-oriented abilities that improve darkness-based infiltration, create misleading afterimages, and enable battlefield repositioning through combat-generated shadows. 422 423 429

Equipment

  • Brilliant Moon Longsword — Roland’s primary later weapon; used to sever all four of Hagrid’s arms during their confrontation. 430
  • Black Wind — Roland’s warhorse and long-term mount. Their partnership developed through riding training and survived multiple expeditions, including the cave collapse. 53 95 100
  • Veil of Shadows — Gifted by the Night Woman; conceals Roland’s inner energy, life, and soul signatures. 259
  • White skeleton bracer — A spell-patterned skeleton created through Bronson’s research, used to absorb Magic Elements and learn Cantrips. 67
  • Chainsaw Sword and Corrosive Hand Cannon — Strange energy-core weapons recovered from Hagrid after Roland defeated him. 430
  • Shield Spell ring — A First Circle magic item restored by Bronson; it can block three consecutive attacks before requiring a day to recharge. Roland later gave it to Avril. 176 373
  • Custom-forged weapons — Roland has crafted weapons and equipment for Sean, Hobby, Freddy, Avril, Bronson, and others. 7 24 166 375

Relationships

  • Sean — Roland’s childhood best friend. Roland forged Sean an iron sword, helped him cultivate the Mithril Body Tempering Method, and learned polearm techniques from him in return. 7 93 94
  • Darko Collins — Noble friend and early hunting companion. Roland repeatedly protected Darko, while Darko provided support, equipment, money, introductions, and political access despite the divide in their social status. 35 44 61 295
  • Hawk — Roland’s first major mentor and employer. Hawk recognized his forging talent, made him an assistant, taught him craftsmanship, gifted him chainmail, and provided a Blacksmith Guild recommendation. 3 43 89
  • Bronson — Scholar, magic researcher, and collaborator. Bronson helped Roland learn literacy and magic, exchanged Silver Dust for a custom dagger, and later restored Roland’s magic items. 15 16 176
  • Peyton — Sean’s mercenary uncle and Roland’s first swordsmanship instructor. Roland obtained training from him through a carefully arranged weapon transaction. 7 8
  • Captain John — Manor guard captain who taught Roland archery and later fought beside him during the defense of Blackwater Manor. 31 57 59
  • Graham — Dean of the Knight Academy. Graham recognized Roland’s combat ability, provided access to the Knight Breathing Technique, assigned him major commissions, and later supplied a Dragon Bloodline secret art. 113 114 269
  • Galvis — Bard, teammate, and self-appointed chronicler of Roland’s life. Galvis treats Roland as the protagonist of his epic, eventually naming it Mortal Hero: Roland’s Epic. 109 148 410
  • Avril Star Language — Elf companion and trusted teammate. Roland supports her with equipment and protection, while Avril provides scouting, combat assistance, and direct honesty. 166 373 410
  • Theresa Hernandez — Teammate whose swordsmanship and information-gathering abilities complement Roland’s frontline fighting. Roland rescued her during the earthquake and later relied on her during pirate interrogations. 100 183
  • Hobby — Halfling student and friend. Roland taught him combat skills in exchange for navigation knowledge, later equipped him with a custom longsword and combat techniques. 133 136 375
  • Freddy — Orc trainee and later companion. Roland defeated him in training, earned his respect, and later forged him a battle axe. 132 206 375
  • Qiao — A red squirrel from another plane who became Roland’s companion after helping him and Darko escape goblin territory. Roland has considered forming a Familiar contract with Qiao for its protection. 36 90 273
  • Durga — Gray Dwarf leader who believes Roland was once Rudolf, a mercenary captain and past companion. 387

Notable Feats

  • Forged a perfect two-handed sword during Hawk’s apprentice assessment and defeated Marco’s group of ambushers afterward. 27 28
