"What was that?"
Even the experienced Awakened found the situation before them difficult to understand.
The mist in the alley and the evil spirits hiding inside the houses were both unlike the evil spirits they usually encountered. They were completely new and unknown.
Unknown.
It meant that all their past experience would be greatly diminished.
It also meant the danger had multiplied.
"That doesn't matter. These evil spirits pose no threat to us. The big shots outside wouldn't have sent us in to explore these things." The youth at the front spoke calmly.
"Let's keep going. The overseers in our team have been relaying information this whole time."
He glanced at the five people following behind the group.
They continued forward.
As they went deeper, all kinds of strange changes began appearing in the city.
The buildings on both sides of the city grew hazy.
This haziness was not caused by mist swirling around them. It was as though a thin veil had been draped over the surroundings, and only the ghostly white light from the streetlamps could dispel it.
Someone tried leaving the road and entering the area covered by the veil.
Aside from a gentle, bone-chilling cold,
nothing happened.
It seemed this was merely a harmless supernatural phenomenon.
Soon,
the buildings changed.
The residences of the Old World gradually became the skyscrapers of the New World. There were office buildings, residential complexes, shopping malls, hospitals... Every building was brand-new, as though it had just been constructed.
"This city looks like it was stitched together."
Someone spoke.
"I've been to three dead cities. Some were modern, while others looked ancient. Their layouts were usually related to the era in which the Source Evil Spirit was born."
"This is the first time I've encountered a hodgepodge of different eras like
