Jia Youcai took a deep breath, pressed his palms together, and squeezed his eyes shut, muttering, "Heavens, gods of all paths, please bless this pull and let me get the Clear Sky Hammer! I, Jia Youcai, have never begged anyone for anything in my life, but today, I'm counting on all of you!"
With that, he suddenly opened his eyes. His finger hovered above the ten-pull button, but he could not bring himself to press it. He kept psyching himself up in his heart: Good luck, come on. Good luck, hurry up and come... He hummed as his trembling finger pressed down.
A burst of light flashed. Jia Youcai stared fixedly at the screen, barely daring to breathe. The light gradually faded, and the first martial soul appeared—still some ordinary junk. His heart clenched, followed by the second, the third... all the way to the tenth. Not a single one gleamed gold.
Jia Youcai's expression darkened as he muttered, "What kind of trash luck is this? Why isn't it showing up?"
But he refused to accept it. Gritting his teeth, he started his seventh ten-pull.
This time, he kept rubbing his hands together and murmuring softly, "Good luck, wish me good luck, good luck brings joy and love..." Then he abruptly froze, widened his eyes, and quickly pressed the ten-pull button.
Light flashed again. He stared at the screen without daring to blink. Yet when the light faded, the screen was still filled with a pile of useless martial souls.
Jia Youcai stomped his feet in fury. "What kind of damn Card Pool is this? Why is it so hard to pull!"
For the eighth ten-pull, Jia Youcai squeezed his eyes shut and shouted, "Give it to me!" After shouting, he snapped his eyes open and viciously pressed the button.
As the light flickered, Jia Youcai felt as if he had fallen into a long, torturous ordeal. He clenched his fists so tightly that his knuckles turned white. At last, the light faded, but the result disappointed him beyond measure. Still no gold.
"Fuck, it's already been eighty pulls. Do I really have to hit pity?"
The ninth ten-pull was practically guaranteed. Jia Youcai listlessly pressed the ten-pull button.
A dazzling flash of light swept across the screen.
"Don't lose the fifty-fifty, don't lose the fifty-fifty, don't lose the fifty-fifty... please don't lose the fifty-fifty..."
The light gradually faded. The first martial soul appeared—and it was gold! Jia Youcai felt as though his heart was about to leap out of his throat. But when he saw the martial soul's outline clearly, the smile on his face froze instantly.
"E-Evil Fire Phoenix? How could this happen?!"
"No, no, no... Aaaaaaaaaah!!!"
Jia Youcai's eyes turned red as he roared, "I refuse to believe this!"
He began operating frantically, exchanging every last soul coin for draw tickets. Looking at the number—thirty-five pulls—he seemed to see his final hope.
"First ten-pull, give it to me!" he howled as he pressed the button. The light pierced his eyes like blades, and he stared at the screen as if he could see straight through it.
As the light faded, a pile of garbage lay quietly on the screen, without the slightest trace of gold. Jia Youcai swayed, gritting his teeth as he said, "Again!"
"Second ten-pull."
When the light faded, the screen was once again full of garbage.
"Third ten-pull, come on!"
The instant he pressed the button, his entire body tensed. But when the light faded, reality crashed down on his heart like a heavy hammer. Still no gold.
Seeing the same result again, Jia Youcai collapsed onto the floor in despair. His eyes were hollow as he murmured, "It's over. It's all over..."
Only five draw tickets remained.
For the first single pull, he slowly pressed the button. The light was faint, and an ordinary martial soul appeared. He did not even look at it before immediately pressing for the second pull. The second was still an ordinary martial soul. The third was the same. By the fourth, when he saw that familiar garbage, his mind had already gone numb. He mechanically pressed the fifth pull.
For the fifth single pull, light flashed. Jia Youcai no longer held any hope as he stared blankly at the screen.
The light gradually faded, and a martial soul appeared on the screen. It was still garbage. Jia Youcai exchanged all his Remnant Souls for draw tickets, earning himself a few more chances at single pulls.
Jia Youcai mechanically performed several more single pulls. Every time the light flashed, it was followed by the same unremarkable garbage.
As the last draw ticket vanished into nothingness, that thrilling glimmer of gold still did not appear on the screen. Jia Youcai sat there blankly, staring hollow-eyed at the screen. The densely packed garbage on it seemed to be mercilessly mocking his persistence and stupidity.
The space was terrifyingly quiet, with only Jia Youcai's faint breathing echoing through the air.
He sat there silently, for who knew how long. Then he suddenly bared his teeth and let out a dry laugh. It began softly, then gradually grew louder and more crazed.
"Hahahaha..." Jia Youcai laughed so hard that he rocked back and forth, tears squeezed from the corners of his eyes. As he laughed, he slapped his thigh.
"Come if you want. Don't let me see you again."
In a fit of anger, Jia Youcai shut down the system and lay flat on the bed in the game, staring blankly into space.
