War had never been something poetic. War was war; from the Warring States period to the present, it had always been grim and cruel.
War was no game, not children playing house. War meant sacrifice. Whether it was the death of one's own comrades or enemy casualties, what it ultimately brought the widows of the dead was endless grief and agony.
The result of craving glory and waging reckless wars was exactly this: Mist Village ninjas and Cloud Village Ninja sprawled across the ground, dying in foreign lands, piled together like trash and burned with a single fire.
Hatake Sakumo was likewise sitting on the ground, receiving treatment from a Medical Ninja.
When he had killed the Mist Commander Genji, he had ignored the attack from Genji's snake staff in order to finish him quickly, directly taking the blast of green light with his body. The price was that his left shoulder was now showing signs of gradually petrifying.
Although the Medical Ninja was treating him, and although Hatake Sakumo himself was circulating Chakra to suppress it, the petrification in his left shoulder was still spreading through his body at a rate too subtle for the naked eye to detect.
"Tokimitsu-kun's Fire Style Ninjutsu is probably the strongest I've ever seen among ninja." To divert his attention, Hatake Sakumo smiled and struck up a conversation with Uchiha Tokimitsu.
"I wouldn't call it the strongest..." Though he felt unbearably sore and utterly drained after desperately squeezing out his Chakra, Uchiha Tokimitsu still roused himself enough to chat with Hatake Sakumo. "There are plenty of Senior Jonin in the
