As Brando and the others set out, Freya was struggling forward through the silver-gray forest. It had been a day and a half since they had joined Blund's forces, but that had done nothing to improve their situation. More and more Pale Children appeared in the forest, seemingly without end. To deal with these terrifying beasts, they had no choice but to flee northwest along the forest.
They hastily ate some nearly inedible dry rations before dawn. Then the scout cavalry discovered traces of white wolves near the forest's edge, forcing the group to set out once more. Marquis Yuxi and that monster seemed to be extremely interested in them, pursuing them relentlessly from behind.
But the most terrifying was still that monster.
Freya checked Aleya, who was feverish on the stretcher, along with another knight. The wound on Aleya's neck had already begun to turn black. The ice spikes fired by the white wolves seemed to carry some kind of curse that delayed the healing of wounds and accelerated decay. Freya herself had many such wounds. She knew this all too well; she simply refused to let that constant agony show on her face.
As for the other knight, he appeared to be completely dehydrated. He had merely blocked that silver monster once, yet it was as if all the flesh and blood in his body had been drained away.
Freya had witnessed that humanoid silver monster being surrounded and attacked by seven or eight Gold Rank Cruz Knights. Its body had been covered in wounds, but it suddenly pounced on one of them. After draining away that man's flesh and blood, every wound on its body recovered as if nothing had happened.
She had never heard of such a terrifying ability. Even vampires did not possess it.
