The Black Knights creaked across the ice and filed in. Laurenna, Firas, Lainaret, and Shido each raised their hands, black-crystal-like longswords pressed against their necks. The Black Knights holding the swords dragged long black velvet cloaks behind them, their faces expressionless, like golems crafted by wizards.
The ice cavern was a mess. The crisscrossing sword marks on the ice proved that a fierce battle had taken place earlier. The Black Knights dragged out the corpses of two of their people, leaving a vivid red trail across the ice.
One particularly tall Black Knight came before Dark Kouhua. The girl gazed back without fear with her pale silver eyes, but all she could see beneath the other party's hood was a pair of exceptionally bright eyes shrouded in shadow and a thin, elongated lower face. The Black Knight stared at Kouhua's snow-white neck for a while, as though considering whether to place his sword against it. "Please move aside," Kouhua said in her crisp voice.
"Miss Kouhua." The knight placed a hand over his chest and bowed slightly to Kouhua. His heavy armor and the chainmail beneath it scraped together with a clattering metallic sound.
"Are you planning to treat me the same way you treated them?" Kouhua glanced at Shido, who was biting her lip in fear, and asked calmly.
"I wouldn't dare," the knight answered with his head lowered.
Kouhua smiled faintly. She knew these people were devotees of Twilight, and the respect they showed her was mostly due to her "sister." Perhaps they believed that she was the true Echisis's Eldest Daughter, the monster leader of the Twilight Legion. If mortals worshipped the gods and Martha, then Dark Kouhua also held a place among the idols these people fervently believed in.
