Background / History

Eck led people seeking independence from the Cruz Empire into the Black Forest, where they established Eluin. Its founding brought them into conflict with the Cruzian royal family. The name Eluin comes from the Matataniya language and means “sacred” 1062 1063.

Eluin’s founding oath held that nobles and common people would jointly decide the kingdom’s fate. Later generations saw both prosperity and decline: the Kolkova Dynasty brought nearly a century of prosperity, but the kingdom eventually weakened again 526. During the First Black Rose War, Eluin suffered a crushing defeat; subsequent civil war further damaged its foundations 1 188.

Princess Griffine sought a future in which Eluin’s glory belonged to the whole nation rather than its nobles alone. Brando likewise opposed preserving a political system that left corrupt nobles in control 570 1264. After a later rebellion was quelled, Haruze’s coronation marked the kingdom’s reunification under its royal family 1439.

Society and Identity

• Being Eluin is not presented as an exclusively human identity: Claudia identifies herself as both Mountain Folk and Eluin 1384.
• Nobles and commoners did not always share in the kingdom’s development. Hainf observed that many people treated Tonigell’s expansion into the Black Forest as though it had nothing to do with them 1378.
• The Lionheart Sword represents the nobles’ oath and Eluin’s unity; Griffine’s announcement that it had been recovered became a decisive issue at the Ambersell Conference 526.

Military and Conflicts

• Eluin’s forces include the White Lion Legion, Royal Knight Order, Royal First Fleet and noble armies. Their quality varies: frontline legions retained greater combat effectiveness than declining second-line forces 59 579 1177.
• Facing a later Madaran offensive, Eluin mobilized nearly 150,000 troops. Its commanders nevertheless recognized a serious disadvantage against Madara’s powerful soldiers and experts, making Tonigell’s forces especially important 1177.
• Eluin forces and allies defeated the Blood Staff and Count Jandernel, securing the southern territories. Freya’s command earned her recognition as the “Valkyrie of Eluin” 820.
• Eluin forces fought alongside other peoples, including dwarves and Toquenin Lionmen, against the Twilight Dragon’s cultists 1432.
