Background

Before the Great Winter, the world experienced the fall of the Great Wei Dynasty, the Five Kingdoms War, and rapid technological development. Winter then brought the collapse of human civilization; later records date power-bearing antiques to roughly two or three centuries before the present era. 440

The Great Winter caused a worldwide Zombie outbreak that left countless dead. Survivors established large Shelters over several decades, preserving pockets of organized society amid deserts, wrecked vehicles, ruined steel buildings, and roaming monsters. 2

Winter’s arms and mining industries were originally dominated by three major forces: Apocalypse Armaments, Qiongqi Mining, and Grand Mining. Qiongqi Mining controlled the large Shelter where Chen Wang first settled after arriving in the world. 2

Gene Serum is Winter’s defining extraordinary-power system. It modifies physical functions and can grant specialized abilities, with known serums ranging from combat enhancement to elemental control and incorporeal mistification. 2 30

• Gene Warriors gain strength, endurance, sensory enhancement, combat specialties, or supernatural abilities through serum injection. 2 30
• Firearms and military hardware remain central to Winter’s warfare; even low-level cultivators can be threatened by sniper rifles or concentrated modern firepower. 2

Political History

Rule of the Three Great Powers

For many years, Winter was divided among major industrial-military factions. Qiongqi Mining operated fortified Shelters and controlled elite enforcement personnel, while Apocalypse and Shengda were major powers in the later political order. 2 37 420

Church Unification

The Church rose from an underestimated underground force into a full military power, revealing hidden bases, trained armies, and tens of thousands of troops. It launched coordinated campaigns against Qiongqi Mining, Apocalypse, and Shengda. 420

Following the war, Chen Wang became Winter’s deified leader. His government ordered Zombie-zone evacuations, resource redistribution, safe-zone construction, and the consolidation of viable Shelters around secure water and food supplies. 420

Supreme Council and Deification Project

After unification, Chen Wang maintained indirect control while the Supreme Council, Intelligence Division, and Special Operations Division administered Winter. The Church promoted Chen Wang as the God of Truth, turning his rule and military successes into a source of Faith Power. 440 570

Yan Zhi became Winter’s foremost administrative and military leader, while Moli rose within the Supreme Council as a decisive political figure. 543 591

External Infiltration and Purge

Visitors connected to the God of Order infiltrated Winter through controlled officials, modified operatives, Zombie forces, and the so-called Deification Project. Their objective was to replace influential figures and seize control from within. 606 637 645

Chen Wang and Yan Zhi responded with a broad screening and purge of corrupt officials, infiltrators, and suspicious Transcendents. 645 646

Major Threats

• Zombies — The central danger of the wasteland era. Higher-tier Zombies can possess intelligence, cooperate, wield weapons, command hordes, and conduct ambushes. 30 362 439
• Eternal Night Organization — A pre-Winter organization linked to Zombies and a “Deification Project.” Its activities suggest that the outbreak may have involved deliberate human manipulation. 593
• God of Order’s followers — Otherworldly agents who regard Winter as an experimental ground and its people as captives raised for an unknown purpose. 606

Historical Mysteries

Winter has no known surviving cultivation tradition, yet ancient weapons and antiques retain powers that can enhance Divine Sense and affect the mind. Chen Wang suspects that a former extraordinary cultivation system existed before Winter and was later destroyed or lost. 324 370 440

The similarity between Winter’s Genetic Abilities and the Demon Race’s innate divine abilities raises the possibility that Winter’s genetic research has a deeper, nonhuman origin. 541 546

The God of Order’s agents describe Winter as an “experimental ground” where humanity is being raised in captivity, but the full purpose of the Zombie outbreaks and the planned theft of World Origin remains unknown. 606

After the major Zombie threats were suppressed and Winter’s external enemy was eliminated, Winter entered a period of accelerated recovery and expansion. 591 693
