"Damn it! What the hell was that thing?"

The blond young man his underlings called Boss Jin stared at the river, where ripples still lingered on the surface, his face filled with frustration.

Was the enemy strong?

He was indeed quite strong, but judging from their exchange, Jin should have been stronger.

But that enemy's attacks had been far too precise!

Unnaturally precise!

Jin had to use ten parts of his strength, while the other only needed three or four to neutralize him, leaving Jin unable to fight freely.

Most outrageously, after his underlings arrived and began surrounding the enemy, Jin had finally found an opening, broken through his defenses, and pierced his body. Yet the man had acted as though nothing had happened, still casually leaping off the bridge and falling into the water.

Arriving before a pool of blood, Jin crouched down, stirred it with a finger, then placed it in his mouth. His pupils suddenly contracted.

Or perhaps a one-eyed half-Ghoul.

"Boss Jin, the CCG people are looking for you."

Just as his heart grew heavy, another underling hurried over to him, panting as if greatly anxious.

"Hide first. I'll go meet them."

Jin spoke with a grim expression.

Ghouls held a low status in the US Federal, but things were correspondingly more stable. At the very least, Ghoul feeding incidents were far rarer than shootings.

There were even occasional news reports of Ghouls dying tragically at the hands of armed thugs.

Ghouls like them, who "obeyed the law" and survived on blood bank plasma and corpses, were tacitly permitted to exist
