After Audrey left, and even the other members of the Psychic Alchemist Society had departed, the jeweler Hilbert turned toward a patch of shadow and growled in a low voice.
Then, a one-armed blue-eyed man with a pale face and a protruding brow bone stepped out of the gloom.
Greed and cruelty still lingered on his face.
"What a pure soul. Who is she? I want her."
Ignoring Hilbert's furious expression, the demon who had fled earlier wore a crazed look.
Those of the Demon pathway were all anti-human lunatics to begin with, and even the Sequence 0 True God had nearly been corrupted by an Outer God.
"Shut up! Don't cause me trouble, you lunatic. She's Count Hall's daughter. Finish the mission first."
Hilbert's expression darkened. The Psychic Alchemist Society itself had countless ties to the Twilight Hermit Society, so having peripheral members of the Twilight Hermit Society among them was perfectly normal.
Ordinarily, Hilbert would have had no dealings with this hired demon.
But after the demon was suddenly severely injured, Hilbert, as one of the pieces on the board, had been activated accordingly and taken him in to help him evade the pursuit of the official Beyonders.
Although the Twilight Hermit Society was maintaining their "greater trend," the assassination of Duke Negan had always been handled through hired agents.
It was not that their own strength was insufficient, but that they did not wish to get entangled in the trouble involved.
Duke Negan was an important partner of the Storm Church in Loen, and the Storm Church and Adam were bitter enemies. Thus, it was better to have some expendable scapegoats carry out the assassination.
For example, notorious pirates, or demons with no human emotions who killed without hesitation.
