Background / History
Li Mu Yang was born during a catastrophic flood and lightning storm. A bolt of heavenly lightning struck him at birth, blackening his body and leaving him barely alive. To conceal and protect him, Lu Xingkong exchanged him with Li Yan’s newborn daughter and sent him to Jiangnan with Li Yan and Luo Qi, who raised him as their son. 474 483 548
His childhood health was extremely poor: he could not open his eyes until age three and could not walk steadily until age seven. Li Sinian, despite being younger, frequently cared for him. 22 As a student in Jiangnan, he was dark-skinned, chronically sleepy, academically weak, and routinely mocked as “Black Charcoal” and the “God of Sleep.” 2
After his body began changing, Li Mu Yang’s health, appearance, intellect, and strength improved at an extraordinary rate. He rose from the bottom of his class to first place in the Xifeng Literary Examination and gained admission to Starry Sky Academy. 132 417
Appearance
Li Mu Yang was once thin, dark-skinned, and sickly enough that classmates likened him to charcoal. Following his transformation, he becomes tall, broad-shouldered, fair-skinned, and strikingly handsome, with a composed yet increasingly imposing presence. 2 30 73 195
- Originally had a dark complexion and a perpetually drowsy, frail appearance. 2 25
- Later develops celadon-like skin, sharper facial features, and a straight, athletic build. 30 73
- His eyes become deeper and more reserved after fusing with the Dragon King’s Tears. 195
- Has slender fingers, a mole on his index finger, and dimples when he laughs. 719 720
- Can conceal his identity with a crafted human-skin mask and a Magic Sound Ball that alters his voice. 349 715
Personality
Li Mu Yang is compassionate, sincere, and unusually sensitive to rejection after years of bullying and isolation. He longs for friendship and readily trusts those who treat him with kindness, yet he notices subtle shifts in others’ emotions and behavior. 167 220
His foremost priority is his family’s safety. He repeatedly risks himself for Li Yan, Luo Qi, Li Sinian, and the Lu family, even when doing so could expose his Dragon Clan identity or cost him his life. 373 437 490
Although initially soft-hearted and unworldly, he becomes more calculating and assertive as the Dragon Soul awakens. He struggles to retain his human morality, particularly when anger, killing intent, and the Dragon Clan’s instincts threaten to overwhelm him. 149 150 666 703
