Nested Schemes, Second Update
"Kid, we don't take loose change here. The minimum is one copper coin."
Old Si glanced at Qin Feng, then spoke impatiently.
Loose change was the equivalent of small currency in this world.
The exchange rate was ten bits to one copper coin, ten copper coins to one silver coin, and ten silver coins to one gold coin.
"I have one gold coin."
Qin Feng took a gold coin from his pocket and raised it slightly.
After receiving the gold coin today, Qin Feng had not spent it and had kept it in his pocket the whole time.
"Wh-what rich young master's child is this?!"
The moment Qin Feng took out that gold coin, the people around him gasped in surprise.
Some lamented that they were worse off than a child, their entire fortunes not even amounting to one gold coin.
Qin Feng was not overly surprised by the looks on their faces. Given that one gold coin could support an ordinary family for a year, his gold coin was equivalent to thirty or forty thousand yuan on Earth. If a six- or seven-year-old child pulled out thirty or forty thousand yuan outside, anyone who saw it would probably wear the same expression as these people!
It was simply unbelievable!
Of course, Qin Feng was not reckless. Before taking out the gold coin, he had specifically checked his surroundings and found very few Spirit Masters, with not a single Soul Grandmaster in sight.
With his current combat strength, unless they were experts above Soul Grandmaster, few could pose a threat to him.
If anyone dared rob him, Qin Feng would smash their skulls in with his hammer!
"Oh my, I never expected you to be a little young master."
Old Si stared fixedly at the gold coin in Qin Feng's hand, rubbing his hands together as if he could not wait to swallow it whole.
"Then can I play this game?"
Qin Feng looked at him and asked with an innocent expression.
"Yes, yes, of course. Everyone is welcome here."
In Old Si's eyes, Qin Feng had become a giant gold coin. He was so delighted that he nearly drooled.
It did not matter whether you were an adult or a child. As long as you had money, he would take it.
"Then I'll try once. Help me make change first."
Qin Feng said to the man.
He had to settle the money first so it would be easier to wrap things up later.
"Young master, won't you try a few more times? I'll give you a discount. How about I charge you only five copper coins for ten tries?"
Pockmarked Old Si asked Qin Feng craftily.
The people nearby watched with great interest.
As for whether this child would be cheated or not, it had little to do with them, because they hated the rich.
A six- or seven-year-old child carrying a gold coin had to come from a wealthy family. Losing six or seven copper coins was nothing to them, merely a drop in the bucket.
"No, I'll only try once. Are you giving me change or not? If you won't, then I won't try."
As Qin Feng spoke, he moved to put the gold coin away.
"Hey, I run an honest business. How could I not give change? I was just planning to offer you a deal. Since you don't want it, I'll take it back."
Pockmarked Old Si said with a chuckle.
He then counted out nine silver coins and nine copper coins for Qin Feng.
Qin Feng took the money and tucked it into his pocket.
Then he placed his small hand into the box. His hand was just long enough to grasp the gold block completely.
He squeezed hard. The originally tender, smooth little hand suddenly bulged with veins, erupting with tremendous strength.
At first, Pockmarked Old Si wore a relaxed expression. But the instant he saw Qin Feng actually lift the gold block upright, his face nearly turned green.
The expressions of the onlookers were even more colorful.
Their initial disdain turned to surprise, and finally to cheers and shouts of encouragement!
They had all been participants before, just like Qin Feng now. They were practically comrades in arms. Even if the prize taken out would not belong to them, they still hoped someone could take it out. They could not let Pockmarked Old Si keep making so much money off them!
Human nature was just that real.
"Does this count?"
Qin Feng set the gold aside and asked Old Si.
Old Si's face twitched. Was this kid some kind of freak? Forget a child—even a strongman could not possibly take out this gold block!!
He had tampered with that thing!
If not for all these people watching, he really would have liked to thoroughly investigate this kid. Where had he gotten such incredible strength?!
"Old Si, say something! The kid took it out. Are you trying to go back on your word?!"
Seeing Pockmarked Old Si frozen for so long, some troublemakers urged him on.
"Sigh, looks like my luck is bad again this week. I actually ran into a strongman. I, Pockmarked Old Si, admit defeat. Take the gold."
The man looked grief-stricken, lowering his head and sighing repeatedly. He looked even more miserable than if his parents had died.
"I don't want this gold block. I want this bag of gold coins."
Qin Feng put down the gold, then made an utterly baffling move—he picked up the nearby bag of gold coins!
"You want the gold coins?!"
When he saw Qin Feng take the bag of gold coins, Pockmarked Old Si's eyes nearly popped out of their sockets.
"Mm-hmm. This gold block is too heavy. I'd rather have this bag of gold coins."
Qin Feng nodded obediently.
Yet no one saw the amused glint flash beneath his obedient eyes.
He had seen this kind of scheme far too many times. Back on Earth, banks, real estate developers, and the like had all used similar tricks. Usually, gold like this was fake.
At first, Qin Feng had thought there might be a little trust between people here. But the moment he touched this so-called gold block, he began calculating.
If it had been normal gold, he could have taken it out effortlessly with his strength. Yet this gold block had required tremendous effort to remove.
He did not know what method they had used, but it weighed at least a hundred jin.
If it were real gold, how could something over a hundred jin be so small? And if it truly weighed over a hundred jin, it would be worth at least tens of thousands of gold coins, right?
If someone had tens of thousands of gold coins, would they not simply buy land, build a courtyard, and peacefully retire? Who would have nothing better to do than run this kind of scam?
He guessed it was most likely fake gold, filled with some other special substance, or perhaps the entire base was a magnet that held it in place.
He had still been somewhat uncertain, wondering if he had guessed wrong. But after seeing the swindler's expression, he became even more convinced.
The gold coins in the bag beside it were real money. As for what that so-called gold block was, that was anyone's guess.
"Kid, this gold block is worth over a thousand gold coins. You'll clearly lose out by taking that bag of gold coins."
"Yeah, yeah. If you can't carry it away, just hire someone. We can help carry it back for you."
The people nearby crowded around Qin Feng, all talking at once to persuade him.
