Background / History

Originally a college graduate and overworked corporate employee named Qin Ming, Aaron picked up a mysterious coin after finishing a 996 work schedule and transmigrated into the body of a destitute noble. His new body belonged to Albert Aaron, a frail member of the declining House of Albert with no estate, servants, or remaining wealth; the original Aaron had even pawned the family heirloom sword for alcohol. 1 2

He awoke trapped in the Leyden City sewers after being used as a sacrifice in a Rat-Faced Cult ritual arranged by Qiao Sen. The Coin of Fate activated during the attempted sacrifice, restoring his strength and helping him survive long enough for Alice, Ed, and Captain Colin to find him. 3 4

Suspected of cult involvement, Aaron was imprisoned and examined by the Prophet Sart. Sart detected an unusually powerful Rat-Face aura on him, but prevented Ed from executing him by falsely claiming to be his uncle. After securing Aaron's release, Sart revealed that he had acted because of a prophecy: “Go east, Player of the Strings of Fate.” 5 6 7

With Sart's assistance, Aaron underwent an Enlightenment Ritual. The ritual brought him into contact with a Rat-Face spiritual fragment, activated his system, and allowed him to become an Enlightenment Black Iron Tier Transcendent. 9 10 11

Aaron later learned that he was bound to Alice of the House of Iris by a marriage contract arranged between their families. Although he initially tried to end the engagement, Alice made clear that dissolving it would insult both houses and violate noble obligations. 13 14

During the investigation into Tien's death and the Crawling Hand Cult, Aaron accompanied Alice, Sart, Siosand, and Lord Bals into Leyden City's sewers. He survived encounters with Crawling Hands, the Silver Tier cultist Tog, and an incomprehensible presence associated with the Crawling Lord. Sart repeatedly endangered himself to protect Aaron, permanently changing Aaron's view of their relationship from a transaction to a genuine bond. 21 23 37 38 39

After recovering from his injuries with a Blazing Sun Potion provided by Sart, Aaron attended Lord Bals' banquet with Alice. There, Degas returned the deed to the Albert Family estate. Aaron subsequently used the value of Sart's connection to Tower Master Julian—and the costly potion used to save him—to pressure Bals over information concerning the Albert Family. 42 46 49 50

Aaron is a thin, malnourished young man with an appearance shaped by the Albert Family's decline. During his Enlightenment Ritual, he sees himself as physically frail and melancholy. 9

Despite frequent panic in his internal thoughts, he maintains a calm exterior when threatened. His former corporate life taught him to smile and act composed under pressure, a habit that helps him stall Qiao Sen, negotiate with hostile nobles, and conceal his uncertainty. 2 3 50

He initially treats Sart's protection as an investment he can leverage for survival and advancement. Sart's willingness to risk his life for him forces Aaron to confront his own weakness and selfishness; afterward, he values their friendship more sincerely. 39 46

Aaron is irreverent toward noble conventions and frequently thinks in terms borrowed from his former world. Although this makes him appear unreliable to Alice and others, it also lets him approach political situations unconventionally, as seen when he turns Julian's potential interest against Bals. 47 50
