Background / History

Old Man Yun first appeared in Huang Family Village as a blind old beggar being driven out by villagers. After Lu Jun helped him, Yun sensed demonic energy on the youth and warned that one of Lu Jun's relatives was not human. He collected black dog blood and gave it to Lu Jun as a means to test the suspected demon. 2

He was investigating the demon Misty Mirage when it entered Huang Family Village. Yun later admitted that he had placed Lu Jun in danger during that operation and directly apologized, while explaining the circumstances surrounding the village's demonic calamity. 13

After witnessing Lu Jun's aptitude and uncompromising desire to kill demons, Yun repeatedly recruited him into the Demon Slaying Division. He supplied Lu Jun with transportation, cultivated contacts, and an invitation to Yunzhou. 14 During the journey, he privately taught Lu Jun the basics of Law Seeker cultivation and offered him three high-quality cultivation methods plus a mysterious Visualization Diagram. 15 16

Yun became Lu Jun's principal sponsor within the Yunzhou Demon Slaying Division. He protected him after Lu Jun killed Pacification Commissioner Xiao Yungui, taking custody of him before the Commander's forces could do so and voting to acquit him at the Golden Robes' tribunal. 31 33 He later helped award Lu Jun a Bronze Robe and delivered the Golden Holder Token granted after the assessment. 38

During the Puppet Corpse Dock's assault on Yunzhou, Yun returned to the Demon Suppressing Tower and turned an encirclement into a rout with a sentient mist that concealed allied envoys and struck hostile Law Seekers. 98 He was severely wounded during the subsequent conflict but was healed by Lu Jun before the battle against the demon kings escalated. 99 100

Appearance

Old Man Yun is an elderly, gaunt man with snow-white hair and beard, cloudy pale eyes, and a composed bearing. He commonly dresses in simple white robes, though he wears an official dark Golden Robe embroidered with Taotie patterns during formal judgment. 31 32 98

Personality

Yun is easygoing, patient, and fond of gentle teasing, but becomes solemn when lives or demonic threats are at stake. He openly apologized to Lu Jun for endangering him during the Misty Mirage investigation, despite holding a much higher official rank. 13

He has sharp judgment regarding talent and character. Yun recognized Lu Jun as an exceptional recruit, privately gave him access to superior cultivation resources, and continued to defend him even after Lu Jun's actions created political danger for the Division. 15 31 38

Although supportive of Lu Jun's demon-slaying conviction, Yun does not endorse indiscriminate killing. When explaining the effects of demonic cult cultivation, he explicitly cautioned Lu Jun not to mistake every unpleasant or arrogant person for a cultist. 20
