Creating History

Absolute silence reigned, like the calm before a storm.

The mages looked at one another, each seeing disbelief in the others' eyes!

The next moment, an uproar erupted, crashing down upon the Research Council like torrential rain, deafening and chaotic.

"Convert lightning into light energy? Did I hear that right?"

"Although lightning possesses luminous properties, no one has ever been able to create light using Lightning Magic alone. How could it be converted into light energy?"

"Exactly! Even St. Elmo's Fire was discovered by chance, and there is no guarantee it can be created every time."

The mages' first reaction was doubt.

Converting Thunder Element into light energy was merely a hypothesis in the magical world. No one had ever accomplished it!

Asheff's casual declaration naturally invited everyone's skepticism.

Of course, some wore uncertain expressions as they secretly wondered whether Asheff had truly discovered the secret to converting Thunder Element into Light Element.

"Silence! Silence!"

Dendall gave two low shouts, gradually quieting the Council Chamber.

"Mr. Asheff, if I heard correctly, your solution is to convert lightning into light energy. Does that mean you have found a means or method of converting Lightning Magic into Light Magic?"

Dendall spoke slowly, enunciating every word in an effort to convey his meaning with absolute precision.

Everyone turned their gazes toward him, their looks filled with doubt, mockery, or uncertainty.

The hearts of the Lightning Magic users pounded even harder!

If Asheff truly proved that Lightning Magic could be converted into Light Magic, then the status of Lightning Magic would inevitably soar!

Their power would rise along with it.

Most importantly:

--they would witness history!

"No, it isn't converting Lightning Magic into Light Magic..."

Yu Sheng'an shook his head in denial. Before he could finish, however, the Research Council immediately deflated, and some even began to sneer.

"Ah—"

"I knew it. How could Lightning Magic possibly be converted into Light Magic?"

"You got my hopes up for nothing."

"Asheff specializes in Wood Spirit and the Summoning School. How could he possibly be proficient in Lightning Magic as well? Even a genius seen only once in a century would be doing well if he could master two schools well enough for actual combat. Where would he find the energy to study them in depth?"

"Exactly!"

"Hmph, he's just trying to attract attention."

A wave of disappointment swept through the Research Council, tinged with mockery.

Stanford's eyes were filled with disappointment as well.

Yu Sheng'an swept his gaze over the mages shaking their heads and sighing, unable to stop himself from shaking his own head. A powerful sense of absurdity rose within him.

This world was truly far too dependent on Magic!

Its basic sciences were still in an extremely primitive stage. It was simply unbelievable.

"Silence!" Dendall shouted again. Once he had suppressed the noise from the Research Council, he looked at Yu Sheng'an. "Mr. Asheff, please continue."

As one of the few people in the Empire who knew Yu Sheng'an's true identity, he did not dare underestimate him.

"You misunderstood me. I said it isn't about converting Lightning Magic into Light Magic, but converting lightning into light energy!"

Yu Sheng'an spoke casually, paying little mind to their doubts.

"Is there a difference?" everyone asked in confusion.

"There is. A huge difference."

Yu Sheng'an could not be bothered to say more. He raised his right hand, and arcs of electricity immediately began dancing across his fingertips.

Everyone's attention was drawn to the flickering arcs.

In their eyes, Yu Sheng'an was demonstrating a magical experiment. Little did they know this was already the limit of what he could do.

Fortunately, he had recently been researching the "flashlight" function. Otherwise, he would never have thought to learn Lightning Magic, much less search for a suitable luminescent material.

Back to the point.

Under everyone's baffled gazes, a thin metal wire suddenly appeared in Yu Sheng'an's left hand.

He then passed the metal wire from his left hand to his right. Fine currents flowed through it, turning it red and heating it up.

Then, in the blink of an eye, the metal wire abruptly released a dazzling radiance.

Though it was daytime, the light was still comparable to Inch Light Magic.

For a moment, everyone was stunned by the sudden light!

"Is that a magical artifact?"

"No, it doesn't seem to be a magical artifact. It doesn't have any magical fluctuations."

The Research Council's mages were utterly dumbfounded!

What they had just seen was completely beyond their comprehension.

Before they could examine it closely, Yu Sheng'an stopped his Magic and casually tossed the metal wire toward Stanford!

Stanford caught it in a fluster.

"Is it a magical artifact?" "What is this thing?" The mages nearby crowded over, asking questions all at once.

"It seems to be just a metal wire," Stanford said uncertainly.

"How is that possible?" No one believed him.

Stanford looked at Yu Sheng'an.

Yu Sheng'an made an inviting gesture. "Try channeling lightning into it. Remember to form a circuit."

Stanford nodded, then pinched the metal wire and released lightning into it.

In an instant, a dazzling light shone from the metal wire. As more lightning flowed into it, the wire grew brighter and brighter, even reaching the blinding intensity of Light Burst.

"This..."

Stanford stared blankly at the metal wire in his hand, his eyes filled with shock, as though he had encountered Magic for the first time.

"Stanford, let me see it!"

The moment Stanford stopped channeling lightning, a mage beside him snatched it away and began examining and experimenting with it.

"It really does seem to be metal wire!"

"How is this possible?"

"Why does lightning turn into light when it passes through it?"

Once the metal wire had passed through the hands of every mage, the Research Council completely erupted!

Countless people stared in shock at the plain-looking metal wire, unable to understand how it could convert lightning into light energy.

It shattered all their common sense!

Amid the deafening uproar, everyone's eyes turned toward Yu Sheng'an, filled with shock and curiosity!

They realized they had witnessed history. They had witnessed Asheff create history!

--he had proven that Lightning Magic truly could be converted into Light Magic!

"Stanford, do you think adding several Metal Wires like this to the Magic Tower would solve your problem?" Yu Sheng'an asked.

"Of course!"

Stanford was flushed with excitement. He stood up, his old face red as he spoke somewhat incoherently.

"Mr. Asheff, can you tell me why? Why does lightning become light energy when it passes through this metal wire? This is simply unbelievable! Can you tell me what material this metal is made of? Is it expensive?"

"The explanation is somewhat complicated. What I can tell you is that this metal wire is worth less than one hundred Copper."

"Less than one hundred Copper?"

"Did I hear that correctly? You mean not gold coin?"

"How is that possible?"

The Research Council immediately burst into commotion, while the Lightning Magic users became even more excited.

"Mr. Asheff, if you are willing to tell me the principle, I can trade anything for it!" Stanford said impatiently.

In the world of mages, all knowledge came at a price.

Otherwise, who would be willing to reveal the Magic they had painstakingly researched?

"Mr. Asheff, I must admit that you are a genius seen only once in a thousand years! If you are willing to pass down this secret to Felix, not only will you enter the Hall of Fame, but I can also guarantee that the Academy Treasury will be opened to you, allowing you to choose any one magical artifact."

Dendall could not help speaking up as well.

This magical knowledge had to be preserved.

Yet Yu Sheng'an's reaction to Dendall's generous offer once again left everyone stunned.
