The toxins had already infected her heart, lungs, and respiratory tract, breaking down her muscles' strength. As they circulated through her blood, the toxins penetrated deeper into her bones. In such a state, even Theresa was powerless to turn the tables.
Even a fully grown African elephant weighing seven or eight tons would be easily poisoned to death within a second. For Theresa to retain a measure of consciousness and still not have died was already an extreme feat in itself.

She brought the spear down. Letting scarlet fill her vision would mean that, in that instant, she would never be able to crawl out of that abyss. Darkness would completely engulf her.
