Background / History

Zhang Rongfang begins as a young Daoist at Qinghe Temple. His relationship with his elder sister, Zhang Rongyu, is initially strained: he rejects her money and gift out of pride, but later recognizes the support and sacrifices she made for him 1 15. Born a fourth-class Man Person with Confucian Household ancestry, he experiences Great Ling’s rigid class system firsthand when Xiao Rong hesitates to accept him because of his background 4.

After escaping menial-disciple status, he becomes Xiao Rong’s cultivation disciple primarily to watch over Xiao Qingying. This improves his food, lodging, and access to cultivation, allowing him to accumulate Attribute Points and begin the Guanxu Skill and Returning Spring Purifying Time Talisman Classic 4 6. His protection of Xiao Qingying repeatedly entangles him in Qinghe Temple’s internal dangers and introduces him to real combat 14 15.

When his position at Qinghe Temple becomes untenable, Zhang Xuan accepts him as a disciple.
