Background

Yue Dewen became Grand Master of the Great Dao Sect and drove its rapid expansion through a doctrine of loyalty to the sovereign, service to the country, and Civilian Skill cultivation. Although Heavenly Treasure Palace fell under his authority, his regular responsibility was overseeing the twelve Upright Officials across Great Ling’s major provinces. 184 192

Behind his leisurely public image, Yue was an Imperial Clan-sanctioned Longevity True Person and a peerless Great Grandmaster. He cultivated Civilian Skill for longevity and spent much of his apparent free time fishing, playing cards and chess, drinking, and inspecting the Dao Palace’s security. 184 192

He spent twenty years seeking a successor worthy of inheriting his legacy. Yue eventually accepted Zhang Rongfang, operating as Zhang Ying and bearing the Daoist title “Heaven and Earth,” as his final disciple; he also trained Zhang Qingzhi. 242 336 703

Yue initially insisted that Zhang Rongfang prioritize Civilian Skill over Martial Arts so that he could Worship God, become a Spirit General, and attain immortality. He upgraded Zhang’s Guanxu Skill into the Supreme Bright Void Skill and closely monitored the disciple’s cultivation. 196 197 214

Appearance

Yue Dewen is a short, round, and conspicuously plump elderly Daoist whose harmless presentation contrasts sharply with his martial standing.

  • Round, amiable face with narrow, smiling eyes. 242
  • Soft, ball-like belly that he casually pats. 184
  • Commonly wears purple Daoist robes and a purple-gold lotus crown in formal settings. 336 509
  • Often carries the scent of food and is frequently depicted eating or drinking. 336 392
  • His smile becomes distinctly oppressive when he turns serious. 434 453

Personality

Yue cultivates an image of an idle, greedy, good-natured old man. He jokes about fishing six days a week, sleeping on the seventh, and eating meat whenever possible; this demeanor often causes others to underestimate him. 270 353

He is calculating, politically ambitious, and willing to deceive allies and enemies alike to secure the Great Dao Sect’s future. His ultimate political aim was not merely sectarian survival, but replacing the Spirit Flight Teaching with the Great Dao Sect as Great Ling’s state religion. 432 461 504

Despite his controlling treatment of Zhang Rongfang, Yue is deeply invested in his disciple. He protects Zhang from imperial coercion, defends him against Divine Decrees, and repeatedly tries to preserve him even when their ideals directly conflict. 336 472 510

Abilities & Skills

Civilian Skill Cultivation

Yue’s Civilian Skill reached Return to Emptiness, a realm described as without precedent among the Sensing Gate’s evaluators. 430

  • Uses Civilian Skill as the foundation for longevity and Spirit General transformation.
  • Can perceive the spiritual traits of Refining Spirit practitioners. 435
  • Developed and taught the Supreme Bright Void Skill, an enhanced form of the Guanxu Skill. 197
  • His immense Civilian Skill allowed him to bear extraordinary momentum, though the burden eventually caused sleeplessness, nightmares, and physical strain. 573

Great Grandmaster Martial Arts

Yue reached the Limit of Great Grandmaster martial arts, possessing refined Enemy Anticipation, Absolute Defense, and will-based combat methods. 430

  • Can approach powerful opponents without being detected. 434 472
  • Suppressed three Great Grandmasters through spiritual and will-based pressure before exchanging blows. 430
  • Continues to teach practical martial principles and the Extreme Realm even after losing most of his original power. 684 685
  • His martial judgment emphasizes reading an opponent’s strengths, weaknesses, and likely movements. 684

Moon God Spirit General Powers

As Moon King, Yue wielded Spirit General power under the Moon God. 431

  • Can perform Divine Descent while retaining his composure. 621
  • Commands moon-white force and a colossal Moon God phantom. 621 622
  • Used the Moon Seal and Return to Truth techniques to defeat Blue-Eyed Stone Men. 608
  • His Spirit Threads were later extracted, leaving him physically weak until his Blood Descendant transformation. 684 708

Talisman Arts and Final Form

Yue’s Final Form manifests as a giant humanoid accompanied by a rotating disc of Talisman Arts. 609

  • The disc contains twelve divine powers whose purpose is to restrain his excessive strength, rather than simply amplify it. 611
  • Gathering Spirit Talisman — releases a ripple associated with the Night Void Eye God, blinding Saint Dance’s three heads. 611
  • Heaven and Earth Convergence — combines multiple divine powers to suppress Spirit Flight Teaching opponents. 611
  • True Seal: Wuji Return to Truth — releases dense white cloud vapor that purifies and neutralizes opposing power. 621
  • Repeated use severely damages his body; excessive releases of accumulated momentum cause bleeding, collapse, and self-inflicted injury. 607 610 622

Momentum and Formations

As National Preceptor, Yue gathered Great Ling’s collective momentum to a degree unmatched even by the former Imperial Tutor. 520

  • Uses national and sectarian momentum to magnify his will field and suppress rival Spirit Generals. 510 520
  • Completed a large-scale Spirit General formation centered on a Spirit Character. 509
  • Created or improved the Fortune Carrying False Body Array to distribute the burden of gathering momentum. 605
  • Destroyed multiple Sentient Spirit Pillars, though the exertion injured him. 593 607

Relationships

  • Zhang Rongfang / Zhang Ying / Heaven and Earth — Final disciple. Yue sought to guide him toward Worship God and Spirit General status, protected him from imperial control, and later accepted Zhang’s refusal to follow the same path. Zhang ultimately saved Yue in battle and transformed him into a Blood Descendant. 336 472 612 708
  • Zhang Qingzhi — Disciple described by Yue as honest, dutiful, shy, and sincere; Yue also arranged training for him at Jade Void Palace. 344 703
  • Jin Yuyan — Martial uncle, political partner, and eventual rival. Yue sought to merge Jade Void Palace with Heavenly Treasure Palace under his authority, while Jin distrusted his ambition. 431 432 452
  • Ming Yuan — Trusted aide and Spirit Vein subordinate who helps supervise Zhang Rongfang and accompanies Yue on important visits. 196 434
  • Moon Empress — Rival figure within the Sensing Gate. She oversaw Yue’s legitimacy trials, later offered aid during his weakened period, and was rejected. 429 492
  • Lao Dou — Long-standing friend and Snow Rainbow Pavilion figure. Lao Dou initially lent Yue manpower, then betrayed him with a dark spell; he later allowed Yue to pass into Snow Rainbow Pavilion to confront Saint Patrol. 487 621
  • Kexiwo — Ally within the Great Sect Alliance. They fought together against the Spirit Flight Teaching and searched for its formation foundations. 573 593
  • Saint Patrol — Major adversary of Yue’s during the Heaven and Earth Convergence and decisive battle at Snow Rainbow Pavilion. 611 621 622
