Du Zhaodi grew up loving machines and dismantling them, but came to resent the feeling of being controlled by them. She later reconciled this conflict, concluding that she did not hate machines at all: she was “born to master machines.” 189

She first appears as the Factory's supervisor during an inspection of Gasoline Town. When Gao Gong offers technology capable of controlling Radiation Beasts, she recognizes its strategic value and offers to take him away by private jet if necessary. 65 68
