Three hours later.
Several drawings Cheng Han had made by hand were sent elsewhere and spread flat across the surface of a broad Peach Wood Table.
A man in a black robe stood with his hands behind his back, staring unblinkingly at the drawings.
Sentry Chief Liu stood beside him and reported respectfully, "Lord Mystic Adept, the second drawing sent by the Mysterious Person depicts a short, stout young man. His lower body is shrouded in shadow, while his upper body is fully exposed. There is a large black mole on the left side of his chest."
So-called Mystic Adepts were ability users more powerful than Warriors.
In the eyes of ordinary people, Warriors were lofty rulers. Yet in the eyes of Warriors, Mystic Adepts were the true masters of this world.
Sentry Chief Liu continued, "The Patrol Department dispatched a Patrol Officer to conduct a covert inquiry at the factory. That young man is indeed an employee there, and his name is Ma Tie."
"The Patrol Department's investigation found that Ma Tie was caught up in an Alien God incident four years ago, though he suffered only minor injuries.
"After that, his temperament changed drastically. He had once been rather hot-tempered, but later became mild and courteous..."
Hearing this, the Black-Robed Mystic Adept nodded slightly. "Many who fall into becoming lackeys of the Alien Gods undergo drastic changes in temperament."
Sentry Chief Liu continued, "In the two years following the Alien God incident, Ma Tie's parents passed away one after another. He then lived alone for two years.
"We interviewed Ma Tie's neighbors. They said that every time Ma Tie went out to work, he would draw all the curtains shut..."
After speaking at length, Sentry Chief Liu gave his conclusion. "The Patrol Department believes Ma Tie is highly suspicious. The drawings sent by the Mysterious Person are quite likely authentic."
The Black-Robed Mystic Adept fell silent for a moment, then suddenly ordered, "Zou Shan, bring the Spirit Detection Profound Disc."
Another Black-Garbed Man standing at the side immediately answered, "Yes!"
Before long, the Black-Garbed Man hurried into the room, holding a metal disc in both hands.
Clang!
The metal disc landed on the table with an exceedingly dull sound.
It was clear from the sound that it was tremendously heavy.
The metal disc was oval, about half a meter long, silver-white all over, its surface carved in relief with many strange patterns.
Sentry Chief Liu glanced at it curiously. The instant his gaze touched the patterns, it felt as though his head had been struck by a heavy hammer.
Thump!
An illusory boom rang out in his mind, and a nauseating oppression rose in his chest.
Startled, Sentry Chief Liu hurriedly looked away.
The Black-Robed Mystic Adept kindly reminded him, "You have not formed a Soul Tempering Imprint. Your mind cannot bear the power of Profound Markings, so it is best not to look too much."
Sentry Chief Liu lowered his head, his attitude becoming even more respectful. "I understand!"
The Black-Robed Mystic Adept opened another stone chest and took out four black crystals the size of fists, placing them one by one into the four recesses along the metal disc's edge.
The crystals fit the recesses perfectly, the seams so tiny they were nearly invisible to the naked eye, displaying an extremely high level of craftsmanship.
Sentry Chief Liu stole a glance from the corner of his eye and thought, What enormous Mystic Crystals! Mystic Crystals are rarer than Gray Crystals. At the same size, a Mystic Crystal contains at least five times the Source Energy of a Gray Crystal, and is worth more than ten times as much.
The Black-Robed Mystic Adept picked up another drawing and placed it at the very center of the metal disc.
In an extremely awkward accent, he recited, "Moo ni... la gu..."
The next moment, a light breeze arose out of thin air within the room.
Whoosh!
A murky ripple instantly swept through the space.
The metal disc trembled lightly, then burst forth with a hazy Halo.
Faintly, strange phantom Light Threads could be seen wandering through the glow.
Sentry Chief Liu instinctively closed his eyes.
A breath later, the light subsided.
The Black-Robed Mystic Adept snorted. "The Mysterious Person actually used Anti-Spirit Detection methods. This person is more cautious than I expected."
Sentry Chief Liu grew increasingly curious.
Could it be that Lord Mystic Adept was using the legendary mystic art of divination just now? Then what exactly did he see? The Black-Robed Mystic Adept rubbed his eyes and murmured softly, "A blazing red giant circular mark... There does not seem to be such a branch among the fire-element mystic arts."
He laughed in a low voice. "This is most likely infighting among the Alien Gods. Ma Tie is a believer of one Alien God, while the Mysterious Person worships another and wants to stab the former in the back, which is why he tipped off the authorities."
Logically speaking, this was the most reasonable explanation.
After all, only Mystic Adepts could master Anti-Spirit Detection methods.
The Mystic Adepts of this world were either Heretical God Believers or served the authorities. There were no neutral factions such as independents or passersby.
And if an official Mystic Adept had discovered clues regarding a Heretical God Believer, why would he secretly pass along the information?
Shanyi Neighborhood.
Cheng Han used the Eye of Omniscience to conduct a deduction.
Since the source of the deduction was himself, it succeeded on the first attempt.
He "saw" the following scene: within a space imbued with mysterious power, a black-robed man stared upward at a blazing, colossal Light Orb, his face completely blank.
A message flashed forth: "Analysis successful! Proficiency +4. Current Proficiency: 38/1000. Spirit Value: 2.3/13.3."
Cheng Han chuckled. "A star from another universe—did that broaden your horizons?"
"I guessed that since supernatural power exists in this world, ability users most likely possess divination methods.
"To avoid exposing my identity, I used my skill to find a way to counter divination."
"Still, I did not expect the Fragmented Imprint of True Flame to possess the ability to erase traces of aura, thereby concealing itself."
Cheng Han's response had been simple: he activated the residual seal to condense a Light Orb, then "ironed" every drawing, much like pressing clothes with an iron.
This erased his own aura, replacing it with the Source Energy aura of the residual seal.
And the source of the latter was the resplendent blazing sun from another time and space. This world happened to have no sun, which was why the Mystic Adept found it so difficult to understand.
"Meow~"
A cat's cry drifted over.
Cheng Han turned around and found the Black Cat beside the water bowl, lapping up water with little smacks.
The Black Cat seemed to have realized that this two-legged creature meant it no harm. It no longer remained curled beneath the cabinet all the time, instead treating this place as its own territory.
After all, it had food and drink here and did not need to endure wind and rain. It was not stupid, so naturally it would not try to run away.
Cheng Han muttered, "My savings are not substantial. Keeping a cat that eats and drinks for free is not a solution. I need to make use of the Black Cat."
This Young Master did not keep idle cats!
Even a cat had to create value! An idea immediately came to Cheng Han. "Since the Eye of Omniscience can analyze the residual seal, it can probably deduce a method to tame small animals as well."
Just imagine it—if he completely controlled the Black Cat, could it not do things that were inconvenient for him to do himself?
For example, if he wanted to pass information to the authorities again, he could simply send the Black Cat out.
That was far more convenient than a Kongming Lantern, and its concealment was superior by more than one level.
Cheng Han glanced at his dwindling Spirit Value. "Tomorrow, then."
