Reasons for Leaving the Alliance

The Blue Dragonflight had no time to concern themselves with Dalaran's affairs, and the Kingdom of Quel'Thalas, having already left the Alliance, had even less authority to interfere. Thus, Tyrel Sunstrider could not say much more. He could see that his brother, Kael'thas Sunstrider, had tried many times, but to no avail.

Tyrel Sunstrider finally understood why his father, Sun King Anasterian Sunstrider, had left the Alliance.

During the Troll Wars, the newly crowned Sun King Anasterian Sunstrider had sought aid and an alliance from the Arathor Empire, the human empire rising in the south, in order to turn the tide of war.

After the two sides allied and defeated the Forest Trolls, Sun King Anasterian Sunstrider promised to teach humans magic. Thus, human mages were born.

But after learning magic, the true nature of human mages was laid bare: greed and selfishness. They craved the unrestricted use of magic, so they left Stromgarde, which followed the High Elves of the Kingdom of Quel'Thalas in urging caution when using magic, and founded Dalaran.

Dalaran was a city founded entirely by human mages. There, they used magic without restraint, drawing energy from The Arcane Weave to meet their needs.

But this led to the formation of Void Rifts, allowing demons to slip into Azeroth and bringing about a new crisis.

Only then did Dalaran's greedy and selfish human mages seek help from their teachers, the High Elves of the Kingdom of Quel'Thalas.

When Sun King Anasterian Sunstrider heard of this, he dispatched High Elf archmages to help Dalaran establish the Tirisfal Council.

Yet after witnessing the dangers of abusing magic, Dalaran's human mages did not stop. Instead, they used the Guardians of the Tirisfal Council as their tools.

In the end, this allowed the leader of the Burning Legion, The Fallen Titan Sargeras, to infiltrate Azeroth. When Dalaran's human mages saw that even The Fallen Titan Sargeras had been slain by Aegwynn, the Guardian of their generation, they became even more reckless. Even The Fallen Titan Sargeras had been defeated—what were mere demons worth? So they grew ever more excessive.

Little did they know that Guardian Aegwynn had escaped their control, prolonging her life with powerful magic, and that Guardian Medivh would later become the final Guardian.

It was Guardian Medivh, the final Guardian, who was controlled by the demons of the Burning Legion and opened the Dark Portal, allowing the orcs of Draenor's Horde to invade Azeroth.

The orcs of the Old Horde even pushed their conquest to the borders of Azeroth. To oppose those powerful orcs, Sun King Anasterian Sunstrider sent Ranger-General Alleria Windrunner to join the Alliance army led by Anduin Lothar, and they ultimately defeated the Old Horde.

Yet even after causing such enormous consequences, the Kirin Tor of Dalaran still failed to learn their lesson. They continued drawing from The Arcane Weave and using magical energy without restraint.

Sun King Anasterian Sunstrider had lived for thousands of years. He had taught humans how to use magic, and after personally witnessing their greed and selfishness, then seeing them cause such grave consequences without a shred of remorse, Sun King Anasterian Sunstrider became utterly disappointed in humanity and the Alliance they had formed.

The High Elves of the Kingdom of Quel'Thalas had helped Dalaran's human mages twice. The first time, they established the Tirisfal Council; the second, they joined the Alliance army to fight the Old Horde.

But the Alliance shielded Dalaran and placed all blame upon the dead Guardian Medivh. At last, Sun King Anasterian Sunstrider could no longer tolerate it. Once might be forgiven, twice perhaps—but never a third time.

That must have been the true reason Sun King Anasterian Sunstrider left the Alliance.

Perhaps Sun King Anasterian Sunstrider's tacit approval of Prince Kael'thas Sunstrider of the Kingdom of Quel'Thalas remaining in Dalaran as an archmage of the Council of Six was his final act of kindness. He hoped Kael'thas Sunstrider and Dalaran's High Elf mages could keep Dalaran's humans in check.

Thinking of this, Tyrel Sunstrider suddenly understood why Terenas Menethil II, King of the Kingdom of Lordaeron, had agreed to let him study the path of the Paladin and had specifically arranged for him to receive the baptism alongside Arthas Menethil, the prince and future heir of the Kingdom of Lordaeron.

Perhaps this was Terenas Menethil II's guilt toward the High Elves of the Kingdom of Quel'Thalas. He hoped to repay the Kingdom of Quel'Thalas for teaching humans magic by teaching the High Elves the path of the Paladin.

The next day, Kael'thas Sunstrider took Tyrel Sunstrider sightseeing around Dalaran.

This was Tyrel Sunstrider's first true visit to a large human city. Before this, he had only been to Light's Hope Chapel and Hearthglen.

As humanity's kingdom of magic, Dalaran was naturally prosperous beyond compare. Its streets were packed with pedestrians. Humans made up eighty percent, while High Elves and gnomes accounted for the remaining twenty.

A human-dominated city was naturally far livelier than the High Elf cities of the Kingdom of Quel'Thalas. Here, one could see all kinds of passersby, hear fierce arguments directly, and Tyrel Sunstrider even spotted eyes peering out from a sewer opening.

Kael'thas Sunstrider first brought Tyrel Sunstrider to Dalaran's most prosperous magical market district, where they mainly sold all manner of items and scrolls created by mages with magic.

These things were highly sought after in the human kingdoms, but Tyrel Sunstrider found them utterly unappealing. After all, in this regard, the High Elves of the Kingdom of Quel'Thalas were thousands of years beyond anything human mages could catch up to.

The only thing that caught Tyrel Sunstrider's attention was the short, entirely green creatures—the goblins.

In the Eastern Kingdoms, goblins did not have a particularly good reputation. They were known for their greed. Yet the strange and unusual creations of Goblin Engineering greatly delighted the Little Prince of the Kingdom of Quel'Thalas. He generously bought several items, paying even more gold than the goblin had asked for, leaving the goblin merchant wildly excited.

"My first time here was just like yours, Tyrel. I bought a few strange little things too." Kael'thas Sunstrider did not stop his younger brother. To the High Elves of the Kingdom of Quel'Thalas, these things truly were novel.

After they finished touring the magical market district, Kael'thas Sunstrider said, "Tyrel, would you like to visit the Wishing Well?"

Dalaran's Wishing Well was perhaps the most famous wishing well of all. Many heroes had tossed coins engraved with their wishes into it.

"I heard that General Alleria, Sister Sylvanas, and Mentor Tirion have all tossed coins into the Wishing Well. I want to see it too." Dalaran's Wishing Well was the place Tyrel Sunstrider was most curious about in all of Dalaran.

Hearing Tyrel Sunstrider's words, Kael'thas Sunstrider smiled. "Tyrel, I heard that even Father has tossed a wishing coin into it."
