Storm
A peaceful day passed just like that.
As March approaches, the stormy season gradually arrives in the Overseas Islands.
The day after Soren returned, a heavy rain fell. While the exact amount of rainfall was impossible to determine, it was indeed very heavy, and many houses suffered minor leaks. This was unavoidable; the technology of this era was limited, and strong winds and heavy rains inevitably caused damage. It was only because Soren had prepared for the climate of the Overseas Islands; otherwise, those thatched-roof houses from the mainland might have been blown away.
The rain poured down relentlessly.
Even though Soren had planned drainage ditches in advance and emphasized road repairs, the water still rose slightly. The newly dug ditches weren't deep enough to drain water effectively, and the roads were riddled with potholes from the torrential rain. The paved roads were slightly better, but any dirt roads were now a muddy mess, practically impassable for carriages and horses. Because of the rain, the Slave were unable to work and were all imprisoned, with guards assigned to watch over them and monitor for the spread of disease.
The natives fared somewhat better, but some of the newly arrived Slave from the mainland suffered from vomiting and diarrhea due to the change in environment. Fortunately, a doctor had come along, and there were no casualties.
Not having a pastor is a real problem!
The Overseas Islands have harsh climates and frequent storms. In addition, because they are areas worshipped by the Lord of Storms, storms here are often accompanied by thunderstorms!
For example, right now.
Streaks of lightning streaked across the sky, occasionally striking the distant Tropical Rainforest, making it look as if someone was undergoing a tribulation!
It rained all day long.
If it were a wooden house, it would probably be soaking wet inside.
However, Soren had already built many brick houses, which made them more adapted to the climate of the Overseas Islands and also more resistant to storms.
The entire campsite fell silent as the heavy rain began to fall.
The pirates took shelter from the rain inside the houses, the three taverns were already packed, and it was pitch black outside, so you could hardly see anything more than five meters away.
"The climate here!..."
Goria looked up at the sky, then stood beside Soren. She took his hand in hers and said slowly, "I'm afraid this isn't suitable for farming. If this kind of weather happens frequently, the seeds will likely have a hard time surviving."
Soren nodded slightly, his expression grave. "I know."
"Fortunately, we haven't planted any seeds yet, otherwise they would probably have been washed away. There's so much to build here: drainage and irrigation ditches, flood control dikes—all of these require a lot of labor. We can only take it one step at a time. This climate isn't unchangeable, though. I'll prepare for the Sea God Ritual in a couple of days."
Upon hearing Goria frowned slightly and slowly said, "By borrowing the power of the Deity?"
"Seeking help from the Deity comes at a high price! It's a pity I haven't advanced to the Legendary level yet. Otherwise, I could use the power of the Wizard Tower and the Magic Circle to forcibly reverse the climate of the surrounding area."
Soren turned and glanced at her, then reached out and pulled Goria's delicate body into his arms, saying in a deep voice, "There's no need to do that."
"The consumption is too high!"
"Unless there's a Wizard Tower to sustain the energy consumption, forcibly reversing the weather might not be a problem in the short term, but it will inevitably have side effects in the future."
"Nature is mysterious!"
"Unless you possess a power capable of altering the very fabric of history, it's best to go with the flow."
Goria didn't quite understand Soren's words. She could understand the words individually, but when they were put together, even she found them somewhat unfamiliar. However, she was, after all, a wise Witch, and she roughly understood what Soren meant.
She nodded gently, resting her head on Soren's shoulder, and said slowly, "You can rely on the power of the Deity for a short time, but in the long run, it will become a dependency, which is not conducive to your rule here. The influence of the Deity will surpass your prestige."
Upon hearing this, Soren took a deep breath and said in a low voice, "I know."
"We just need to get through this period."
Rumble!
A bolt of lightning struck, its flashes resembling the dance of dragons and snakes.
Soren stood under the eaves, gazing at the sky, his eyes seeming to pierce through space and see more.
That is the realm of the Gods; there lies the power he needs.
The torrential rain lasted for three whole days before it stopped.
Soren's camp was somewhat flooded, which was a headache, but it also exposed some flaws in the construction and planning. As soon as the rain stopped, he quickly mobilized manpower to repair the damage, including repairing the damaged roads and houses. After the rainstorm, the sky was clear and it seemed that no storms would come anytime soon. Climatically speaking, farming here requires a bit of luck and favorable weather, but powerful forces can indeed change the climate and weather patterns.
A busy morning passed quickly.
After their initial inseparable bond, Soren and Goria gradually returned to their normal routines.
Soren was busy setting up camp and honing his Spell skills [Combat Casting]. In the afternoons, he trained combat techniques, with the Drow and Adele serving as his sparring partners. Goria usually conducted research inside the house, occasionally venturing out. Recently, the Man-Eating Plant had briefly captured her attention, but she quickly turned her focus back to researching the Shadow Plane. Goria hoped to establish a Portal to secure the connection between the two worlds through the gaps in the Shadow Plane.
This allows them to return to the Material Plane at any time and close the Portal if they encounter unexpected situations while exploring the Wizard Tower.
This is the safest way!
Besides that, they maintained a frequency of once every three days, enjoying their time together.
Neither Soren nor Goria are the kind of people who easily indulge in lust. They have pursuits that transcend material desires and physical desires, a realm that transcends the mundane world.
Perhaps because of Goria's presence, the murderous aura emanating from Soren was much lighter than before.
This made many pirates grateful to the Witch. In the past, Soren was an absolute ruthless killer, his methods Cruelty and bloodthirsty; his pirates always feared him more than respected him. Now, Soren killed less, and even when some of his men made mistakes, they were mostly only punished with whippings.
Getting whipped is much better than losing your head!
The Slave began to busy themselves.
There's still a lot to be done in developing the camp; building everything from scratch is truly difficult.
Even Soren sometimes felt tired.
However, it was all worthwhile, because a foundation had been laid here, and even the Drow, after witnessing its growth firsthand, gradually began to feel a greater sense of belonging.
Some Drow Warrior even suggested that their people migrate here.
It's safer, more comfortable, and more convenient here, with plenty of food, excellent equipment, and all kinds of daily necessities.
but.
Because some within the Drow fear that Soren might shift from cooperation to annexation, completely devouring the entire drow race, the female Drow within the race are quite opposed to this.
Soren was not in a hurry.
He planned to leave these matters to time; if they still didn't understand when the time came, then Soren shouldn't blame him for using some Cruelty methods.
A large area of wasteland has been reclaimed to the south of the camp.
However, sowing has not yet begun; it is estimated that it will be around March. The firing of bricks and tiles and the construction of houses are still proceeding at full speed. Soren's initial plan includes nearly five hundred houses, enough to accommodate all his subordinates, and even a small number of Slave are being considered. The Wizard Saruman has begun to study how to turn Guano into high-quality fertilizer, and it is estimated that there will be results in about a month. At that time, sowing and plowing will also begin, as the Slave brought from the continent have mastered deep plowing operations.
Farming here requires meticulous cultivation.
Recently, Soren learned from his men that Saruman was very interested in those Man-Eating Plant, which aroused his curiosity.
Fortunately, Saruman didn't neglect his duties, so Soren didn't interfere further.
In the afternoon.
Soren was practicing his White Raven Swordplay in the training ground when, just as he finished sparring with Adele, shouts and cries of Slave and pirates suddenly came from afar.
Bang!
Soren seemed to hear something, and his figure immediately soared into the air, rushing towards the farmland.
One after another, agile figures rose from the ground.
Soren's pirate leaders rushed out, leaping onto the rooftops and then rapidly approaching the farmland.
A vibrant and ever-growing force has given them a sense of belonging.
Nearly ten pirate leaders, each around the fourth rank in strength, rapidly approached, then leaped over the fence and rushed towards the reclaimed land. Leading the charge was naturally Soren. As he drew closer, he immediately spotted two enormous Wyvern ahead. They flapped their Dragon Wing and swooped down from the sky, their massive claws instantly piercing two native Slave. Amidst their dying screams, the Wyvern, like eagles, snatched their prey and flew away into the distance.
"Court death!"
Soren's face was grim. When he saw the Wyvern hunt down its Slave right before his eyes, a surge of anger and murderous intent Neutral.
Slurp!
Slurp slurp!
Elven War Bow appeared in Soren's palm. Once he closed the distance to within range, he fired a volley of arrows, most of which hit the Wyvern. However, most of them struck the Dragon Wing and did not hit their vital points.
The Wyvern let out a mournful cry, its body swaying slightly, but it continued to fly further and further away.
"Trying to run?!"
Soren chanted the incantation expressionlessly, and his figure rose directly into the air.
--"Fly!"
His figure soared into the sky, and in an instant, he nocked another arrow and aimed at the belly of the Wyvern!
(P. S.: There will be one more update today. Writing this chapter feels so much more real, like inspiration has returned.) (To be continued~^~)
