Three pitch-black energy tentacles burst from the ground! They were about as thick as a baby's arm, yet each was a full thirty feet long. The Black Tentacles, formed entirely from shadow energy, wrapped around their targets in an instant. The first to be caught was an Ogre. The moment the black tentacle touched it, the Ogre froze stiffly in place, looking like a wooden puppet. The power of a third-circle Fireball was comparable to artillery fire; naturally, fourth-circle Black Tentacles were not as simple as they appeared.
Highly condensed shadow energy had a Paralysis effect. Any creature touched by a black tentacle had to make a Fortitude Save or be paralyzed for several seconds. Although Ogres were very strong, their Constitution was not much higher than a human's, usually around 15, so they only had about a fifty percent chance of passing the Fortitude Save. Under Soren's mental control, the black tentacles coiled upward. Their thirty-foot length was enough to wrap around an Ogre once, winding from its body to its neck before gradually tightening.
