Background / History

Xin was a child of the Vassals when the Xuan God identified his intellect, spirit, cunning, and devotion to his kin. He was instructed to become Chieftain and to temper kindness with the ruthlessness needed to protect the tribe from northern nomads and the Bear Clan 72.

He eventually displaced the prior Chieftain and sealed the Magical Beast Forest after recalling the Xuan God's warning about the powerful creatures within it 79. As Chieftain, he trained more than three hundred young tribesmen in mounted combat, archery, and lances, while commissioning weapons strong enough for the physically enhanced tribe to use 90.

The Bear Clan's earlier attack left Xin determined to pursue vengeance. He led a surprise cavalry assault that annihilated most of its warriors, executed its Chieftain and other leaders responsible for the war, and accepted foreign captives who voluntarily chose to join his people 84 92. Years later, he repeatedly refused the weakened Bear Tribe's requests to be absorbed into the Xuan Tribe until they understood the principles taught by the Xuan God 94.

After receiving the Compendium of Ten Thousand Laws, Xin organized the tribe's response to an approaching war and began construction of the Xuan Tribe's first city, naming it the City of Qi after an older Chieftain 114 115. He later led the Xuan Tribe against a thirty-thousand-strong invading force, ultimately securing dominance over the grassland despite initially underestimating his own warriors' strength 117 122.

Xin eventually died from overwork. Xuan Sheng upgraded Soul Village so Xin could briefly return through the Soul Return Stone and speak with his family and tribe 318. As a soul spirit, he could still appear near the Xuan God and resumed command during the Xuan Tribe's crisis with Ater, ordering a retreat toward Sacred Leaf Royal City to preserve the tribe and seek leverage against potential allies 370 371.

Personality

Xin is practical, observant, and deeply protective of the Xuan Tribe. Even as a child, he was chosen for his ability to combine shrewdness with love for his people; as an adult, he judged outsiders by their resolve rather than their origin 72 113.

His leadership is marked by calculated ruthlessness. He executes those he considers responsible for blood debts and believes strength is necessary to secure peace, yet he distinguishes between enemies and civilians, showing hesitation over the fate of captives after the Bear Clan's defeat 92. His harshest decisions are rooted in fear of the Xuan Tribe suffering the extermination and humiliation he believes would follow weakness 84 371.

Despite his stern authority, Xin cares intensely for his family and comrades. He was devastated by Yun's apparent death in battle, continued to worry over tribal affairs after entering Soul Village, and retained enough affection to return for chess with Rong 122 318 516.
