The Evil Dragon Who Wanted to Summon the Undead
The evil dragon definitely kept a diary. If he did not have the habit of keeping one, he would not have said something like that, much less given her a notebook.
The notebook the evil dragon gave her was ridiculously huge, probably over a meter long. There was also a pretty pen beside it.
Keeping a diary once again refreshed her understanding of evil dragons.
She suddenly recalled something the evil dragon Lance had said yesterday.
There were two kinds of evil dragons: other evil dragons, and Lance.
The evil dragon Lance really was different from the evil dragons in legends.
"Do you keep a diary to remember the Strong Enemies you could not defeat when you were young?"
"No. I keep a diary to record everyday things. When I get old, or after a hundred or two years, maybe five hundred years, I can take it out and look through it, reminiscing about the glorious days of my youth.
"We dragons can live for a very, very long time. During those long years, some adult dragons choose to sleep out of boredom. Young dragons, since they are still growing, are also forced into periods of sleep when they reach certain ages.
"When some adult dragons wake from their slumber and do not want to sleep again anytime soon, they find interesting things to pass the time. Like playing the evil dragon, kidnapping a princess, or raiding human caravans to steal Gold and Silver Jewelry.
"Dragons raised on Dragon Island have it better. With so many of their kind around, they do not get bored or lonely.
"I was different. From the moment I hatched until I grew into an adult dragon, I lived on this continent. As a young dragon, I had to compete with powerful Ferocious Beasts and Magical Beasts for food and territory just to survive.
"By the time I gradually grew stronger and wanted to find my kind to talk to, I realized there were hardly any dragons active on the continent.
"I had no choice. To pass the time, I could only find interesting things to do—studying, playing the part of an evil dragon, turning into a human and visiting the human world.
"Then, in my spare time, I wrote these interesting things down in a notebook. Slowly, you would discover that keeping a diary was actually quite interesting. Especially when you wrote diaries using the scripts of different races—that sense of satisfaction was indescribable.
"After a hundred or two years, when you flipped through your old diaries, the things you had done and the people you had met would surface in your mind. You would find it quite interesting.
"Here is a piece of advice: when playing with humans, it is best not to spend too much time with them. Otherwise, when they grow old and die, you would have to give condolence gifts.
"If their sons got married or their daughters were wed, you would have to give gifts too. What a huge loss."
"..."
Lucia had listened to the evil dragon Lance's earlier words with great interest, but the tone suddenly changed in those last few lines.
When a friend you had spent decades with died, the first thing you should feel was grief and sadness.
But when it came to the evil dragon, the first thing he thought of was having to give gifts. She did not even know how to complain about that.
"You are so powerful. You could turn your good friends from the human world into undead, then sign summoning contracts with them and have them serve as your Battle Partners.
"When you have nothing to do, you could even play cards with them. With your abilities, as long as you got a little serious in battle, no one should be able to hurt those friends of yours after they became undead."
Lucia was being a little mischievous.
She felt that when the evil dragon's friends died of old age, he was probably somewhat sad too. After all, they had spent so many years together and formed bonds.
His warning against spending too much time with humans was probably because he did not want her to experience that kind of sadness.
As for giving gifts, the evil dragon probably truly did not want to do that either.
A love for Gold and Silver Jewelry was etched into a dragon's dragon soul and Dragon Bone.
"That is a very good suggestion. In a few days, I will take you grave digging."
"???"
No. No way. The evil dragon took her seriously? Did he really want to turn friends who had been dead for who knew how many years into undead?
She had said that to ease the evil dragon's sadness.
She did not genuinely want him to turn those friends into undead.
The dead deserved respect.
Why were necromancers disliked? Was it not because they often turned the dead into undead and made them fight for them?
"So many years have passed. Let it go. Do not disturb your friends."
"That is true. The world has changed. After several hundred years, their graves may have been buried beneath windblown sand and dust."
Lucia let out a sigh of relief. It seemed the evil dragon had only been teasing her.
"But what you said just now did inspire me. Since I cannot turn friends into undead, could I turn my former Strong Enemies into undead instead? Then summon them up from hell."
"..."
No way, was the evil dragon really that vindictive?
Several hundred years, perhaps even a thousand years, had passed, and he still remembered his Strong Enemies from back then? Lucia's gaze fell onto the diary.
Sure enough, the diary's true purpose was to record his former Strong Enemies. Keeping a diary was merely incidental.
She silently picked up the pen on the notebook, opened it, and wrote the three characters Lucia on the first page.
After turning to the next page, just as she was about to write, she suddenly thought of a problem. How should she write the date? Using the Imperial Calendar?
That would make it easy to expose herself.
She should ask the evil dragon.
"Lance, how do you write the dates in your diary?"
"The year, month, and day of the Black Dragon Calendar."
"???"
He used his own identity to establish the year, month, and day? "Then what year, month, and day is it in the Black Dragon Calendar today?"
"June 19th, Year 3455 of the Black Dragon Calendar."
"..."
3455 years. Was that the evil dragon's age?
The evil dragon Lance was 3,455 years old this year? She now understood why he used his own age as the year.
He had lived for too long. If he used the timekeeping of the human world, it would become confusing within a few hundred years.
There were many kingdoms in the human world, and their records of years, months, and days were all somewhat different.
There was, however, one unified calendar called the Creation Calendar. The major temples in the human world used the Creation Calendar. The years varied, but the months and days were the same. Some differed due to time zones.
The evil dragon was probably too lazy to use the calendars of human kingdoms, or perhaps he had been using the Black Dragon Calendar to record time since the day he hatched.
Then she would use the year, month, and day system the evil dragon used.
June 19th, Year 3455 of the Black Dragon Calendar. Black Dragon Island. Sunny.
Diary entry:
Yesterday, the evil dragon Lance gave me a Lucky Coin. This morning, he gave me a notebook too.
While chatting with him, I was inspired and thought of something.
To become an outstanding evil dragon, one needed two qualities: being petty and holding grudges.
My first dream is to become an outstanding evil dragon like Lance.
My second dream is to become an emperor in the human world and capture a princess for Lance to raise.
After writing a brief diary entry, Lucia nodded in satisfaction.
"How does keeping a diary feel?"
"It feels... like something an improper evil dragon would do. What proper evil dragon keeps a diary?"
"..."
Lance suspected the young dragon was taking a dig at him.
How did keeping a diary make him an improper evil dragon?
Lucia secretly breathed a sigh of relief. She had finally glossed over that earlier topic.
She was worried that the evil dragon Lance's Strong Enemies were powerful heroes or celebrated champions.
If he turned figures who might have gone down in history into undead, she might get beaten up.
