Seeing that the Prince was no longer staring at them, the Cavendil cousins turned their heads in unison and looked at each other.
Jann glared at Federico.
"Fuck you."
Fede was not about to back down. He snorted in reply.
"Fuck you!"
"Why don't you two just fight?" Tales turned back impatiently and spoke crudely. "Or just fuck each other?"
Only then did Jann and Federico look away.
"Can we leave now?"
Cassian watched the three bickering nobles, his tone carrying mockery and disdain that he himself did not notice.
"Looks like we won't find the mastermind before you gentlemen turn this place into an underground boxing ring."
The altar fell silent.
Tales gave the two Irises a long look, shook his head, and left with undisguised disappointment, brushing past them.
"Wait."
Jann, who had been staring at the ground, suddenly spoke.
"That suicide note."
Tales stopped.
Everyone turned around. Jann took a deep breath and said firmly:
"It's too fake. It's full of holes, riddled with flaws."
Tales narrowed his eyes.
"What makes you say that?"
Look at that. Duke Jenn can speak after all.
He isn't only capable of wailing and throwing rigged punches.
Federico frowned as he looked at Jann, who had broken the silence.
"Leaving aside why it's so neat and beautifully written..."
Jann stared at the suicide note in Wyatt's hand.
"If it's really as the note says—that little Bott wanted to hurt Shilai to get revenge on me—then he shouldn't have killed Zadvi. His best choice would have been to gather some men, capture the priest when he was alone in an alley, torture him for answers, and then go straight to Shilai herself."
"Maybe something went wrong when he was trying to capture Priest Zadvi, and he had to kill him in self-defense?"
